How to finance a career change to Graphic Design? Dear readers, I am thinking of making a career change to Graphic Design. I currently work unhappily as an Office Manager and have been out of undergrad for nearly 2 years. I am not that skilled in using Graphics software- at least not to a level that I think the profession requires. I want to seek a more formal education but it will cost me an arm and a leg and find that I am not offered financial aid by most institutions because I already hold a Bachelor's degree. However, I find it difficult to pay out my own pocket for the courses as I can hardly save money every month. Please offer me your suggestions as to how I can finance this education or more economically learn the software/knowledge. (Someone suggested purchasing tutorial books, but I would also like to get classroom instruction to supplement.) Thank you for your comments. And for fun, please write what city/state/country you are located. I am in New York, New York, USA.

Poll: How much would you say is a good amount to save every month? I've been saving £350 every month without fail since I was 18 (I'm now 23) I've never touched that money and it's slowly beginning to grow into quite a sizable little pot. Would you say I'm doing the right thing, what else could I do? I hear so much talk about the need to save for our pensions now and it's pretty scary just thinking about this so anything that you can share is greatly appreciated. Oh!! and for my poll, how much would you or do you save every month? Appreciate your input ^_^

Teach English In Korea; Saving Money? Most of what I have read about teaching in Korea sounds great but I haven't read much on how easily it is to save money while teaching. If an instructor is making 2.0 - 2.4 and lives with an intention of saving money every month what can an instructor hope to save per month? Thank you for your insight.
How can my husband and I save serious money each month!?!?!? Okay...times are hard as everyone knows, but its pretty hard for me and my husband. We are both only 22 and have our own apartment. He works full time with beneifts, so we both have insurance. I do not work however, I cannot find a job to save my life. Ive been getting alot of help from my parents..every month she lends us money and then we have to pay it back with his next paycheck and its square one. It is soo hard to pay ALL of our bills with just his paycheck, and so in the meantime until I find work I really need advice on saving money. Right now, we have Comcast Triple Play and I was thinking about just having basic cable and internet (no home phone since we both have cell phones)..I dont think they have a plan for that tho. We eat out alot, so yes, we are going to start making meal plans and cut that back. Its so bad that I didnt even eat today and Im getting dehydrated b/c we have nothing to drink here and I refuse to drink tap water. Tomororw my mom is giving us some money. He only gets paid every 2 weeks so its really hard. Not to mention we have debt collectors calling every day 10 times a day b/c my husband owes 40,000 in school loans we cant afford to pay. We are trying to have a baby this month, so we really want to get our act together and learn ways to save money until I get a job. Thanks guys!!!!
How do you save money? What is your trick to putting away money every month without noticing it's gone? I'm asking for tricks to putting money away. Of course it's not for spending. Like when you get a raise, do you put that extra money away?
Where should I put my extra money? I'm saving extra money every month. I have about $52,000 in student loans @ 5%. I have a home mortgage of $150,000 which is an 80/20 Interest only loan 5/1 ARM. 80 part of loan is at 6% and 20 part is 7.5%. I am also investing into a 401K? Where should I put extra monies?
Where should I save money? I put aside money every month after funding my retirement accounts. This money isn't for anything in particular, just to have money around when I need it - in addition to my emergency fund. What are thoughts on the best means to save this money? CD, Money Market, Bonds, etc. It isn't long or short term saving...it is simply saving. My concern with the bank is that they really don't keep up with inflation. My concern with CDs is that they aren't easily accessible.
How do I save even more money? I save on a regular basis every month. The money is automatically taken out of my checking and put into savings. I have set certain goals like save $3000 or $5000. But the problem is that when an emergency happens I have to go into my savings because I don't want any debt. What ends up happening is I fall behind on my goal. I continue putting money into my savings but again I take money out to fix my car, go on vacation, whatever. How do I save more and stay out of debt?
Can I save money by just having a prepaid phone? I have 450 minutes a months and I only use like 100 every month. The only time I really talk on my cell is on the weekends and its free anyway. It seems like I should just cancel my plan and just make my phone pre-paid and just buy my minutes as I need them. Anyone else in the same boat?
Should I let him borrow money? My brother called me and asked me to borrow money because the got a no pay due (he is in the military) He was getting overpaid and never said anything about it so the military took their money back. Now he wants me to help him out. The thing is that he is single and just blows all his money and doesnt save at all. As for me I am married with 3 kids and I have bills that I have to pay soon but my husband and I also save money every month. We have helped him out before, he was living with us (before the military) didnt get a job or anything. We payed all the bills food etc. My husband wants to help him but I believe in tough love, do you think I am wrong to do that he says he has bills to pay ok we do too. I am not heartless if he was responsible with is money then I think I would feel different about it but he does get paid pretty good and he actually get a living allowance too and just blows it all. what do you think I should do? I do not want him to get used to us helping him

I calculated that if I put an extra 800-1200 amonth towards principle I could do this. But then I questioned what I have to go thru to refinance as I have never done this. Woudl it be better to save that extra money every month to put down to refinance?

(Pre-construction) It will be built in 7 months and I have that time to raise extra funds to better my loan. I will put the money I raise towards my down-payment, closing costs, or furniture when the house is done. Are new appliances better in term of saving energy? My light bill just keeps growing no matter what I do. Which option is better, putting most money (Salary, every month) in Stock Market or Corporates SACCOs? A colleage of mine, about 46 years old now( I am 26 and one year old in the workplace) was given a whooping Kenya shillings 750,000 (1 US $ = Kshs. 72)as dividend by the Company SACCO(Savings and Credit Cooporative) for having saved with them. This is dividend for only one year! I felt jealous! Now my question is, Should I invest more into these saccos or put money in stock market because after a long time, like 10 - 20 years, rates also increases exponentially?

**** Parents always begging for money ***? my parents are always begging me for money i make $2000 a month after taxes at a job where i am treated like crap and paid well below for what i do. But my parents live in a house that they can barely afford to pay for with their jobs. im just so sick of writing off half my paycheck off every month and the depressed look on my dads face because we once again dont have enough money to cover the bills this month. i have my own bills to pay too and i want to save money once again this month i had planned to save some money but again i have to give half of it to my dad. im so sick of this crap i even told them that why do we live in such a big house if we cant afford to pay for it and they tell me that one should always aim for better things in life and move forward not backward and at the same time they cry to me for money every month. and i dont have any friends or husband etc` or anyone who i can talk to about my own problems im pretty positive i will kill myself one day

How is the best way to save money? Every month when i get my allowance, 2 days and there is nothing, i feel like i am spending them very quickly.................. What should I do
What would you do in this situation? I’ve been saving money to one-day surprise live-in bf with vacation to Europe. Last year (for xmas) I got him a new recliner that he wanted and he refused to sit in and try out before I went to bed… which really p’o’d me and led to a huge fight. So anyway, he really has no concept of money, as he doesn’t pay the bills, he hands me his paycheck and spends whatever he wants (until I tell him to stop because there is none left) I have 2,000 saved. I am beging to feel like he wouldn’t appreciate the value of what I am doing… saving money every month for years for a surprise. What would you do in this situation? Saving for the surprise… or spend it on your own selfish wants? Lately I am leaning towards spending it on myself. he doesn't spend his whole paycheck. it goes towards bills, but I have to do the work of paying them all. and he has expressed interest in europe.. duh
How can Britney not save any money? This article says she makes $700,000 a month, but doesn't save any of it for retirement: http://biz.yahoo.com/hmoney/071106/110607_revell_moneymag.html?.v=5&.pf=retirement It would take me almost 24 years to even make $700,000 based on my current salary! How can $700,000 a month not last you forever?! It's absolutely ridiculous that someone could have no retirement money left after making what she makes every month. Not that I really care either. I just find it amusing that she makes $700,000 a month and it would take me 20-some years to make that much. Funny how that works.

How to save money? I earned $300 per month as a part timer. Every month, I spend $100 on my bills. I pay for all the expenses I incur (food, transport). If I really go in a diet, I will most probably spend $100. I still have music lessons to pay for, which costs me $80. And I want to buy a $2500 instrument for myself. How can I ever save money or even earn more? I’m studying and working at the same time. I think it’s breaking me. I study from 8am-6pm, and work from 6.30-11pm. HELP!
Can you please help me how can I save money for my future? I am working in a BPO in Chennai. My Salary comes to Rs. 17,500 PM. I have taken 3 Personal Loans Rs. 1,00,000 ; Rs. 48,000 and Rs. 30,000 (all for my Sister's Education) and paying EMI of Rs. 3,274 ; Rs. 2,467 and Rs. 1,455 respectively. So, the amount I will have every month in hand comes to Rs. 3000 approximate with which I am making my day-to-day expenses like petrol for my bike, Grocery and etc. at last, at the end of the month, I have Rs. 0 balance in my Bank Account. Is it fair to allow your child (23) to take a student loan for University in the UK? While we do support her (we pay her enough to cover her rent and a bit extra), she still needs to take out a student loan. She has already taken the student loan, but as a parent, I still feel slightly guilty about this. Not sure if this is justified or not. My husband and I have always been self employed, and always just gotten by financially without being able to save. In the last year or so, my husband has got a good job, where for the first time we finally have enough left over to actually save some money every month for the future. We are trying to build a nest egg, since we have no pension set up. I think in light of our financially situation, the amount offered to our daughter to help her through school is enough. What do you think? Maybe I should add that about 8 years ago, we were almost completely bankrupt. We have managed to pull ourselves out of that, pay off our debts etc. but it has taken us the last 8 years to do that. Finally now we are managing to save, but we only have about 8 years until my husband has to retire from this job. If we had 20 plus years of working ahead of us, I would be less worried.
Why do all fat birds have false nails ? Do they think it will help them attract a man ? Why not save that money every month and join a gym ! Didnt mean to offend so many heffers out there ! Can you teach me how to save enough money?? I'm 20 and want to start saving my money. I have 2 more years left of college and I want to have a new car and be able to move out of my home and get an apartment upon graduation. I plan on teaching right out of school. (35K/yr) During college I make about $100 dollars a week, and I work full time on vacations. ($400/wk) Currently I only have about 1000 saved up and I just got my first credit card to gain good credit. I pay the full amount every month. What can I do to invest my money so that I can afford to make payments on a $20,000 car next year while still saving for my apartment in 2 years. How much would I have to save... and where is a good place to save it? Savings account? Invest? I'm just looking for a little advice! Thanks!
Is there any halal/Islamic bank in USA? I am saving up money every month in an interest free account. I have a few grands there and I was thinking if I put the money in traditional interest account I could probably earn some more every year. But bank interest is not allowed. I was wondering what could be a halal way to invest this unused money (not enough money to start any business tho). BTW, earnings from Islamic banks, which run under Shariah, is Halal. I'd appreciate your answers/comments/suggestions. Thanks and May Allah bless you all. ummB, when I opened my account, I told the rep that make sure I'm getting an interest free account. It's Astoria Bank.

Money or Independence? I'm almost 24 and still live with my parents. I commuted to college to save money, so I have never lived away from home before. I got a new job and a nice pay raise recently, and I've been thinking of moving out and getting my own apartment. But my area (NJ, in the NYC metro area) is very expensive, and I have no friends that I could room with and share the rent/bills. So that's a lot of money to spend every month. I have two younger siblings, but they'll be out of the house in the fall. I was almost 100% on moving out before my sister (who lives in close quarters with me, and who was messy, loud and inconsiderate) announced that she's moving across the country to join Americorps. So now I've reconsidered, because she was my main reason for wanting to move. Still, I feel like a baby when people ask me, "Oh, so I hear you're still living at home with Mom and Dad?" Is losing all of that money worth it? Does it make sense to move out just for my own pride? Thoughts, please. Thanks, all! Keep the opinions coming. To the person who asked if I pay rent and utilities ... no, I don't. My folks haven't asked me to, and I'm very fortunate that they don't make me. I pay for my own personal expenses - I own my own car and pay for the insurance/gas/repairs myself. I also pay for my own credit cards (no debt) and a small student loan myself. I also took care of my entire college tuition myself, so that did not cost my parents a dime.
Saving Money Help!!!!!!!!!1? I work for the state of NC at a elementary school, which means I don't make any real money, in the maintance department. I don't make good money, but I don't have a lot of bills either. I have about 650.00 worth of bills per month. I make about 25000 dollars a year. Since I work for the state we have a great 401k plan and great benefits. What is a good amount for me to save each month. I only get paid once a month, which may be a good thing considering I get paid at the end of the month, meaning I have one lump sum at the end of the month. What should I put in savings every month that is actually possible to do I'm only 20 years old. Help Please. LOL I don't have any other debts like credit cards or student loans or anything. I just owe a truck payment of 250.00 per month Truck insurance 150.00 per month Cell Phone 100.00 per month Ymca 50.00 per month 100.00 Internet/Cable per month.

Anyone have creative ways to save with very little money? We want to start building a "nest egg" for vacations, a house, emergencies, etc but are barely making it. Does anyone have creative ways to save? So far I have... *Pay for everything in whole dollars and put the change in a jar everynight; put change from bottle deposit refunds here too...at the end of every month, change gets rolled and deposited. *Take online surveys and put the money into savings *I can't get direct deposit, so every week I put the last amt in savings ex-$464.07 means $4.07 goes in the bank....twice a month I add $10 to this *Save at least half of any "windfalls" *Of course, there's the budget too, we cut unnecessary expenses, bring lunches and drinks from home to work, use coupons and bargin shop Anyone have any other good ideas? Thank you!
Is it true that you can save $ by unplugging appliances? I have heard that if I unplugged my tv, stereo, alarm clocks, lamps and other household items, I can save money on my electric bill every month. This would mean that even when these items are turned off, they are still drawing electricity.
In India, where sholuld i invest money in short term (6-9 months)?? I wanted some info regarding short term investments. I am holding 2-3 insurance policies in which the premium (Total Annual premium of around 70,000/-) has to be paid half yearly. But as i'm from a service back ground, i've to save every month to pay the premiums twice in a year. The amount that i save every month lies in my savings account, so i was wondering if it is possible to invest this amount in some funds(debt or FDs or something else??) where i can earn better returns than the savings account and still be able to pay the premiums every six months. Also, do i need to pay any fees or load for such investments?? Plz advise.
