Why does the average U.S. citizen not save money, but instead spend more money each year than they make? The U.S. savings rate today is a negative number There are almost as many cars in America as people. So survival is a poor answer. You don't need a car to live. If everyone spent there money and saved nothing there wouldn't be any new business. (New business comes from invested savings) The economy can not grow without new business. Wouldn't keeping up with the Jones and valueing yourself based on matierial goods make the average American want to strive for success. Creating a high standard of living would at the same time create a desire to make sure to maintain such in case of a rainy day. If a person eats hamburger or kobe beef, wouldn't they want to keep eating it even during bad times? Maybe the U.S follows the lead of their government who goes higher and higher into debt each year.

Training yourself to save by carrying huge amounts of money? If you train yourself to carry lots of money without spending it, will it make your a better saver in the future? I know most people cant do this and if they did, its probobly suicide for their money. My main point here is to tell parents to train their children not to fall into any dept problems when they grow up. I've read too much "How can I pay my $10000 dept?" questions today so I'm concerned about these people as role models for children. If you deprive children the money they're given, and save X% to a back account, wouldn't the person ( child who grew up ) go on a spending spree when he/she gets money on his/her hands? Saving for the child trains him/her to spend the money on hand because someone else is doing the financing for him/her. I've seen this about 3 times already... What have you done to improve your life today? Ok, so I printed this question yesterday, and Im going to try to do this for at least a month. I like many people have fallen into a rut of being overwhelmed by mess and clutter, and 50 unwanted pounds. I feel tired and cranky all the time. Yesterday, I uncluttered my house for an hour and cleaned my daughter's room. I drank alot of water. I went for a mile walk and did 14 minutes of a personal training video. Today I will still drink alot of water. I will vaccuum my apartment, and sweep all my floors. I will go for a walk, and try to finish that workout. In my life I have been discouraged by huge goals that I havent been able to accomplish, I think myself and other people need to realize that any accomplishment or mini goal can help us to feel better. So my one month goal for May25,2007 is to have saved enough money to buy a new dress for myself with cash I have saved by not eating fast food and coffees. Do you think your children will have a higher standard of living than you do today? With the stagnant wages and higher cost of living, I have less purchasing power than I did in the 1990s. Back then I had less skills a lower level job but still was able to save and invest more money than today. My standard of living has gone down especially in the last 5 years. Of course, DMV rats you out to Allstate, and Allstate charges a ton for insurance (Arm + Leg). Oh, two new drivers. Now, I know some basic things about Auto Insurance: A) Good grades (above 3.0 gpa) can get a discount from some insurers (usually 10%). Have this. B) I drive a moderate car (not SUV or sedan). D) No criminal record and no disciplinary file at school. E) In the Fall, Drivers Ed is offered. How can you save money when shipping packages? I am an ebayer and I just started selling. I had to ship a package today that sold for 68$ + 12$ shipping which totaled of course to 80$. When I got to the UPS store to ship it it came to 56$ to ship it. I made 25 bucks of of my auction. Ridiculous.. so to you expert sellers, whats the cheapest way to sell packages that require boxes, and how can you save money when doing it. Also when calculating shipping, do you use the furthest domestic distance (farther you go, more it costs.)
Are you really saving money using cheap foreign labor or are you alienating your customers? I run a business. Which means most of the time when I am here I am working. Today alone the same yellow pages representative called me not once, or twice but THREE times trying to get me to upgrade my listing, I didnt have time to deal with her the first time.. This would not be so horrible except that the reason for the second and third call was that I didn't understand one word she said on the first call. I understand companies are giving these phone room contracts to foreign companies for the cheap labor force but she spent nearly an hour talking to me today and the only the she accomplished was frustrating me and making my vow never to do business with them again. My boyfriend is money obsessed? We are 25 and both have jobs. Our combined monthly income is 4,000. We already have a mutual fund with over $5,000 saved in which we place 100 each a month into. And with all of this, we still are able to live in a wonderful condo and pay all of our bills and YET my boyfriend still worries about money. I have a few things I want to buy I have made a list: Ipod Touch Some new golf clubs (driver, irons, hybrid, wedge) That is easily probably $1,500 However I took money out of the bank a while ago like $600 and still want to pay at least half back before making one of those purchases.
