When I retire what taxes should I expect? When I am ready to retire and am at an age when there is no penalties for withdrawing my money, what taxes should I expect to be hit with? I would also like to know the low, median, and high tax bracket (percenatage) I could end up in if anyone knows. I do not live in a state with incomet tax either. Thanks you!
How do you pay your mortgage or rent when you retire? I am 28 in the UK. I haven't got a mortgage. When I am retired and living probably in private rented accommodation, who pays the rent? Or what about if you haven't finished paying off your mortgage but have to retire? I'm planning for my future! I am probably never going to have a mortgage. So how do I cope with the rent?
When its time for me to retire, can i collect social security in addition to my 401k savings? The reason im asking is because, it would seem as though some how it would be considered "double dipping"...., I've got about 30 years until retirement, so im hoping that there are no surprises, for example being forced to choose between which one "retirement" egg to use. I just hope that the "forces that be" when the time comes for me to retire dont tell me that I cant have the money that i worked and earned a lifetime to accumulate.
When a wrestler is about to a retire they seem to lose their last matches? When a wrestler is about to a retire they seem to lose their last matches? For Example Ric Flair last match against Shawn Michaels Flair lost, Stone Cold vs The Rock Austin lost, The Rock & Sock Connection vs Evolution the rock & sock lost that match however wrestlers like Trish stratus won her last match as champion a good way to end her wrestling career what's your opinion about it?
When is the earliest time to retire and get the most out of company pension and social security.? I believe I have enough saving in my 401K now to grow to more than one million when I turn 65. I am at 50 and thinking when I can retire without losing much in company pension and social security. My guess would be 58 or 59 that I would have the best three years of my income within the last ten years of my retirement for the social security calculation. I do plan to do part time work though to keep me busy with much less stress. I should be free from any liability or debt because my kids should finish college and my house has been pay off this year.
How do I become a teachers aid when I retire in a couple three years.? I expect to retire in the next three years from a career in computing. I originally wanted to be a teacher when I went to college 40 years ago. For financial reasons I found a different profession. I now would like to teach but the idea of going back to school to get a masters degree is daunting. I believe I would like to be a classroom aid in a local elementary school. I live in Seattle Washington.
What happens to alimony when you retire? I know someone in Florida who pays a flat alimony amount every month, regardless of how much he makes. (He's self-employed.) So what happense when this guy becomes too old to work? Will they cart a 60-80 year old man off to jail because he can't continue to generate that much money?
401k: what taxes do I pay when I retire? I have a traditional 401k. I know that the contributions and growth are deferred until I retire. When I do start to pull out money, are all the capital gains taxes due? Do I have to keep track of all the buys/sells I've made?
When I retire, how does my retirement get paid out? I am a teacher with a pension and my husband a 401k. When we retire how does our retirement get paid out? Is it monthly? Biweekly? Or do we get it one lump sum? Can we decide how it's paid out? How is it decided how much you get per check? We're in our late 20's so we obviously have decades before this happens, but we were curious how it work.

Which place is cheaper for a person to retire: Thailand or the Philipinnes? I am thinking about retiring in about 10 years and I want to start planning. If I stay at my current job, I can retire with about $2950 per month (a little under 100 per day). I would like to retire overseas. I am concidering Thailand and the Philippines. Which one would be cheaper? Which one has the better quality of life for retirees? I have concidered other countries, but the cost of living was too high. I will need to stay within my budget.
when you retire, do you pay taxes on your social security benefits? and do you pay in on social security after you retire (while you are getting it)? wow, a few good answers there....I'm only 51 (only, gees). but I will get about 22,000 in SSI as well as nearly 20,000 pension when I am 69. I have some savings in work 547 or what ever those pre-tax accounts are called...and I figure on 50,000 total income if all goes the way my spreadheets tell me. so according to you guys (especially "taxman"...(ask a tax man)...I would have to pay taxes on $12,000 even in retirement...This is without actual wages, only surviving on retirements and savings there is some cost of living in my $50,000 figure, so I would imagine that the $25,000 cap will be higher as well due to inflation
What do you think about Social Security not being avaliable to us when we retire? I mean we pay into Social Security expecting when we get old enough we can relax and not have to work. But now its not going to be there so why do we have to pay for something we wont get. I been doing reasearch on the social security benefits(gov) website and looking at the stats there isnt going to be any money in the account for my generation when we retire. They have solutions on the site to fix the problem but no action has been taken.
If you move to Canada when you retire, how does the free healthcare work? I know you have to live in Canada for a minimum time to receive their free health care. But the idea is you are paying taxes into the system and you get free healthcare in return. But if you are retired and not working, then does it still work the same way? Since you aren't and have never paid Canadian tax, do you still get the free healthcare? Thank you to the one person who actually answered my question at all. to the rest: Am I supposed to believe all of your thoughts about Canada? None of you are even smart enough to comprehend a simple question and some background info. I ask a question, provide some background info to help norrow what I am trying to figure out, and I get all you ranting about Canada. I happen to be 24 and so far from retirement I'm not even considering it. I just wanted to know this answer becuase I'm curious. And a bunch of idiots decided to give me no more useful information then how Canada sucks and their hospitals suck. So thank you. thanks for acting like a bunch of rubes.
How do legislators plan on us supporting them when they retire? Currently we pay around 506 congressmen and senators at least $163,000.00 annually. Since lifting the congress salary freeze in 1994 that Reagan put into affect during the 1980’s, legislators have increased their own benefits and salaries at a rate far beyond minimum wage increases and what working class citizens get. Also during that time, import/export taxes were ended to open globalization that ended our jobs while allowing unmonitored goods (food, toys, equipment, etc.) to be sold to us. Retiring with 2/3rds of their salaries and unlimited health care at the expense of tax payers is going to cost the next few generations at least 82 billion dollars annually in pensions for our current legislators. If they continue to sell out American jobs, and pay farmers to not produce crops how do these legislators plan on our children supporting their greed?
In the US, when you retire, can you do what you like with your pension funds or do you have to buy an annuity? In the UK, because the government subsidises our contributions, we have to gift 75% of the fund to the crooks running the annuity racket, with their telephone number salaries and even higher annual bonuses. The alternatively secured pension(ASP) to which Joe refers, is only available to Plymouth Brethren and it merely replaces the 75% annuity expenditure by a 52.5% inheritance tax. But at least this goes to the govt and not to the insurance co.
When you retire, where would you like to live and why? I have 26 years into my career and plan on retiring in ~20 years. If I can decide on where I would like to retire I may be able to transfer within the company to a location suited for my retirement. Thanks for your help.

When baby-boomers retire who will pay the taxes, the middle-class? the wealthy will be retired? As 77 million members of the Baby Boom generation begin to retire, America is about to experience one of the most dramatic economic, sociological and demographic changes in its history. The institutions we have relied upon in the past are completely unprepared for what lies ahead. Politicians, the national news media and the general public have become increasingly aware that our federal entitlement programs are about to be swamped. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid have made trillions of dollars of explicit and implicit unfunded promises. In fact, by 2030 (about the midpoint of the baby boomers' retirement years), we will have to double every tax rate or cut every benefit in half. But our problems do not end there. Federal, state and local governments have made $5 trillion in promises (many of which are unfunded) to civil service workers. Corporate America owes about $450 billion in pension promises and $350 billion in post-retirement health care promises that are also unfunded. To make matters worse, the instruments we have created to help individuals save for their own retirement - principally through 401(k) accounts — are also not working well. In general, people are not saving enough, and they are not prudently investing the funds they do save. Behind our inadequate institutions are inadequate public policies. For example: * On balance, the tax law encourages current consumption, but discourages saving for consumption during retirement. * Even more important, the tax law encourages overconsumption of health care before retirement, but discourages saving for what are likely to be greater health needs later in life. * The American answer to the European-style welfare state has traditionally been employer-provided benefits. Yet: * Unwise public policies are encouraging large employers to abandon pension and post-retirement health care promises made to their employees. * Other policies are preventing employers from helping employees make their own provision for income and health care during the retirement years. * The policies that are most inadequate for the baby boomers' retirement years are those affecting early retirees. In general: * People who retire early will find that their opportunities to save are much more restricted than those available to people still in the workforce. * They will find that health insurance is not only more costly when purchased by individuals, but the insurance (unlike insurance obtained at work) must be purchased with after-tax dollars. * Once they begin drawing Social Security, they will discover that if they earn additional income, say by working part-time, they will face draconian effective tax rates - taking as much as two-thirds of what they earn. * And even if they don't work for wages, they will discover that the tax rates on their pension income and IRA withdrawals are much higher than the rates paid by younger taxpayers at the same income level.
Will you have enough when you retire? When I first started working an income of 10,000.00 per year was considered very good wages and enough to rais a family with. Now that I am retired my income is three times that and I do have to watch the pennies but yes I have enough. Will you have enough when it is time for you to retire? Are you planing for what you will need?
What do sex workers do when they retire? I'm writing a novel. One of the main characters is a bachelor and just uses a sex worker for intimate contact. I'm currently planning to retire the girl he frequents. I would like her reason to be that she's made enough money to get into real estate and she's decided to do that for awhile. I need to know if this is realistic, or I need to know other things a sex worker might do after getting out of the business. What do sex workers do when they retire?

When will the Undertaker retire? The Undertaker has been around a long time. He still looks great in the ring, and still draws a following. But ever good superstar must come to an end. When do you think Undertaker will retire.
What happens when WE retire? I'm sure every one on here has heard that the money WE'VE paid into social security will be going to the illegal immigrants. Isn't it enough that the taxes WE pay are all ready going to them now for welfare? My 63 year old mother can't even get medicare, yet the money she has been paying all her life is going to people who haven't paid a cent to our country. Maybe we should stop paying taxes & we'll be rewarded. I've been hearing for years that their won't be any social security when I retire, now I know the rumors are true. My husband has more money deducted from his check every week than some people in this country make in a month. I am so tired of supporting the lazy people in this country. The only people in this country who should be able to receive government help are the elderly, who have worked all their lives & the people who are unable to work. We need to shut not only the borders but also the free-ride lines. If this offends you, oh well.
Will Definted Benefit Pension still be around when I retire? I am 20 years old and I plan on making a career with the Police. I know social security would be gone when I retire, but would it be realistic for me to look foward to be paid a retirement check when I finish serving 25 years? Or do I have to look out for myself? As more people continue to retire and living longer, the government and companies that offers DB or DC plans will be their biggest liability. Do you think they will cut out retirement benefits forever in the future?

Republicans always say they are against entitlements, so will they refuse Social Security when they retire? Social Security and Medicare are entitlements because the people who paid into the system for their entire career are entitled to receive benefits when they retire. It's true that the way the system was designed was to have the current generation of workers pay for the currently retired, but many Republicans want to stop paying into the system and deny the elderly of their entitled benefits. I have been paying into the system and I am entitled to receive the benefits when I retire along with everybody else. If you want to complain about future solvency, then you have only Republicans to blame for using the current SS and Medicare surpluses for other budgetary items instead of investing them (as Al Gore suggested by a lockbox) so that the money would be there when budget shortfalls start happening in 30 years. So all you entitlement hating Republicans, will you go on the record now and refuse to collect Social Security or Medicare when you retire? Do Republicans confuse welfare with SS and Medicare? Welfare represents only 1% of the Federal budget http://www.apa.org/pi/wpo/myths.html while SS and Medicare are about 50% Yes I know about SSI, it's also an entitlement we all pay for so if one of us has the misfortune of getting into a debilitating accident we won't die in squalor. Why are you against that?
what you do when you retire- a joke? Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well for example, the other day my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres. So my wife called him a s---head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Personally, we didn't care. we came into town by bus. We try to have a little fun each day now that we are retired. It's important at our age.
