Would you work outside the home if you had enough money to retire early? No one in my office who is over 50 seems to happy to be there. Many of them have told me they can not wait until they turn 62 and can take Social Security. Many people in the office are hoping to retire before they are 62 and move to volunteer or part time work. They are burned out and show it! How about you? If you had the ability to retire from your job/career as early as 50 would you do so, if you could swing it financially? Or would you miss the gang at work and having a place to go to each day? At what age is early retirement a good thing or is it just a sign or lazyness?
How do you deal with professional references who retire, move to other companies, withdraw from workforce etc? I have been in the work force for ca. 15 years. Some of my professional references and former supervisors have retired, died, moved to other companies and/or withdrew from the labor force due to motherhood etc. I am a good worker so my references are usually "stellar." What is the best way to keep these references for career and proof of experience purposes,: although many of them have moved on to other companies or stations in life? What if a potential employer were to call the company and nobody there remembers me or my work becuase there has been so much turnover and none of my listed supervisors work there anymore?
Can I still claim some of the basic UK pension if I work in the UK for a few years but retire abroad? I am a British citizen who has just started a new job in London after graduating from university. I plan to go to Hong Kong to work and retire there in 3 years' time. I would like to know if I am still entitled to any UK state pension for these few years when I will be working in the UK. Further, if I join a company pension scheme, would it be pointless as I am not retiring in the UK anyway? Thank you.

Retire from the military (enlisted) without working afterwards? I am in the air force as an E-3 and was thinking about whether it would be possible for me to do 20+ years and retire without having to work afterwards. I am also planning on contributing a substantial amount to my Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) over that time, which i have already been doing for the 1 year since I joined. At what rank (enlisted) and how many years would I need to be at to retire comfortably without having to work?? Have any of you pulled this off ?
Should I work after retiring from the military? I retired from the military i draw a pension of $3500 per month. I don't have any bills except utility bills. I'm 52. My significant other wants me to go back to work, she works a fulltime government job and her net income per month is around $3000. Our house is paid for all of our vehicles are paid for and oldest is 2 years old. I don't want to go back to that 9-5 every weekday grind that i put up with for over 30 years. I just want to be retired to do things i haven't been able to do for years. Am i being a selfish bastard or is she being overly demanding. Maybe i should just leave her with everything and start a new life elsewhere.
If you move to Canada when you retire, how does the free healthcare work? I know you have to live in Canada for a minimum time to receive their free health care. But the idea is you are paying taxes into the system and you get free healthcare in return. But if you are retired and not working, then does it still work the same way? Since you aren't and have never paid Canadian tax, do you still get the free healthcare? Thank you to the one person who actually answered my question at all. to the rest: Am I supposed to believe all of your thoughts about Canada? None of you are even smart enough to comprehend a simple question and some background info. I ask a question, provide some background info to help norrow what I am trying to figure out, and I get all you ranting about Canada. I happen to be 24 and so far from retirement I'm not even considering it. I just wanted to know this answer becuase I'm curious. And a bunch of idiots decided to give me no more useful information then how Canada sucks and their hospitals suck. So thank you. thanks for acting like a bunch of rubes.
What is better, retire from military at age 38 or retire as a civilian at age 60+? If I retire at age 38, I'll be getting roughly $3500 a month, tax free for the rest of my life if I stay military. If I get out, I have a chance of getting an almost 6 figure income, but will not have that military pension to fall back on, and will not have retirement pay until around age 65. Which would be better, stay military and get that pension, or get out and get a 6 figure income?
What should be the age to retire from voting ? When the minimum age for casting a vote is 18 then why can't we fix an age for the maximum age. Minimum age for casting a vote is reduced from 21 to 18 because it was felt that, at the age of 18 one can clearly judge the candidate. Govt fixed the age limit for retirement i.e 58 or 60 or 65 , why because it thinks at that age a person can't judge properly. So why govt is not implementing a maximum age for casting a vote? I admire people who still work at the age above 60 but my question is that why it is fixed that one should retire at certain age.? When its already decided that one has to retire then why not for casting a vote?
Can you retire from one branch of Military and join another? For example, the new cutoff age to join the Army is 42, if someone joined the USAF at age 17, and retire at age 37, could they then enlist in the army? If so would they have to start over? OK, so If you retire from 2 seperate services, do you get double retirment? Do you get retirement from one branch while serving in another?
I am trying to retire from the Navy Reserves but...? I am trying to retire from the Navy Reserves but they are missing my time that I spent in the Army National Guard. If I can get this time then I will have the number of years necessary to retire. Does anyone know how to get these "retirement points" and yes I contacted an Army recruiter and he had me send some paper work to St. Louis but the Navy Reserves said that they could not accept that paperwork.
you work and pay taxes, then retire, why do you pay taxes again on your private pension ????? You work and pay into a private pension and get taxed. Why when you retire are you expected to pay tax again on your private pension, this pension was a choice deduction from your wages, but do not understand why you have to pay tax twice... Just to clarify.....the question is about my parents who sacrificied every month to pay into a private pension ....sorry for opening up old wounds but it is a disgrace.....makes you think..maybe better off not working..eh

Are you about to retire from the postal service? If so, read this.? Throughout your entire postal career, you've had to sign or initial every stinking piece of crap imagineable. This is so that it could be proved that you had some responsibility if there was a mistake. I know personally of people that were fired for signing something that their supervisor pushed under their nose when they had no chance to read it. Well this is almost as bad. When I had the option to retire, I was directed to Human Resources. I had worked with the person there so I felt comfortable. She had my personnel folder in front of her and the paperwork that had to be done. She said that she would fill out the forms since she had done it hundreds of times. She asked me a few questions during the process. One of the questions was about insurance and I said I wanted the same coverage I had. Then it was sign, sign, sign. Well, she changed my life insurance coverage from 3x to 1x my pay. But once those papers got sent, there was nothing I could do. Warning! Do it yourself and check
Tendulkar and Dravid to retire from the game. Breaking News.? A friend of mine, close to one of the BCCI bigwigs family tells me this: There is an interesting solution being worked out by the crafty politicians in the BCCI. This is in wake of the increasing criticism by the TV media and politicians. Tendulkar and Dravid would immediately retire from International cricket. A statement would blame both Members of Parliament and the Media for cutting short their careers. They would go on to say that their cricketing achivements have been far greater than what politicians have achieved in administration in 50 years. (The term used would be "politicians" to escape a privilege motion). There would be attacks on specific news channels including Aaj Tak. The key idea is to do this immediately after the ODI series. Tendulkar would say - he would not play the world cup, come what may. Once that realisation comes, that these two won't play the WC, the ire will be turned against politicians and the media - forcing them to shut up. Tendulkar and Dravid have been talked to. Kumble has been excused from the scheme of things. As for Chappell, he would resign. And when India get a drubbing in the test series, there will be calls to recall Dravid and Tendulkar.
Can A British Citizen Retire To The USA - And not work? The US immigration website says it's impossible to live in the USA without a work permit. That makes sense. Yet I read today older British people can 'retire' to Florida who are self sufficient financially, Is that correct? If so, is there an age this starts at? E.g 70+ years old? I thought the days of 'buying' your way into the USA were long gone. E.g giving the US Government $500,000 on entry and waiting 10 years - for it back? Many Thanks for any help.

They have churned out too many cover material and its seriously bugging me,especially after they released Home, originally by Michael Buble as their first single. And they don't even try to write their own songs. Hereby,an order from Ellen Degeneres : Westlife RETIRE!~
Can a single 30 year old male retire and not have to work again with $650,000? My friend just inherited this amount of money after his mother passed away. It's all in his brokerage account, taxes paid already. Where would he have to move to and how would he have to live in order to retire and not have to work again and make this money last for the next 45 to 55 years. Do you think it's possible? Could he live a decent life?

OZZY fans: is it time for Ozzy to retire from singing? I went to Ozzfest over the weekend. Every song was lowered by an octave to make the vocals easier for him, but he still couldn't sing on key. He reads every word off a teleprompter. Don't misunderstand, I love Ozzy and his music. I saw him in the 80's when he was great. Now it's getting sad. He can't possibly need the money, so why doesn't he retire from singing? If his wife Sharon truly loved him, she wouldn't let him humiliate himself like that. Anyone who's been to Ozzfest have an opinion? BELIEVE ME, I'm not trying to rip on Ozzy. I love every CD he's ever made. He's a Rock & Roll legend, a pioneer, and it hurts to see him butcher his classic songs. I'll never stop listening to his music... but I can't bear to see him sing live anymore. I'd rather just remember watching him sing Over The Mountain with Randy Rhoads at his side...

Was it worth time spent away from your children and spouse to retire from the military? My husband and I are both in the military. We are debating whether we should both stay in the military until we retire. What have been your experiences with deployments and being away from your family for long periods of time? Was retiring worth the heartache? A note to the 3rd person who answered my question. My husband and I are in the Air Force and it is totally NOT family oriented!!
Will Brett Favre retire or come back? And How far are the Packers away from the Superbowl? If Brett does indeed come back the Packers will be in great shape heading into the 2007 season. If anybody saw the way the Packers finished the season they would understand that the Packers arent to far off from returning to another Superbowl, what seemed like a distant dream in the beginning of the 06' season, may become a reality, with the packers putting together a dynamic defense led by their vetran secondary and young savy line backers. With the Packers defense on the rise and a young team coming into it's own it doesnt matter how many interceptions # 4 throws 29 or 1 the Packers are a team on the rise BUT only with Brett Favre. If any of you read this and work for a newspaper i am looking to start a journalism career
