Retiring In Mexico Knowledge Base
Does anyone know if you have to be licenced in Mexico to be a manicurist? I want to retire in Mexico, and I am a licenced manicurist here in the states, recently visited Mexico and see that they are greatly lacking in professional manicuring. Do they have schools for this there? Is there a cosmetology commission there like here? What kind of rules are there? I had one of thoses cheap maicures! It was worthless. I was in Playa del Carmen. So as far as I can see it, an experienced manicurist with talent and personality would be very popular with the tourist crowd.
Is it true that Mexico has some really nice areas for retirement? I've heard that Americans can retire in Mexico and that the cost of living is considerably lower than the US. Is this true? Where? How safe? Thanks for your help. I don't know if I want the beach, mountains, etc. I was just hoping for general info. Thanks very much to everyone!
Best car to retire with in Mexico? I have a pickup now, but I'm thinking of retiring in Mexico. I'm thinking I'll need an SUV, wagon or mini-van with good gas mileage, plus maybe something I can throw into four wheel drive if I encounter a washed out road. (I prefer driving the back roads--to discover new towns--rather than driving the toll roads.) Can you think of anything that meets these criteria? I'm thinking Lake Chapala area, right now, but I also like Oaxaca and San Cristobal de las Casas. If I were going to Mexico City, I WOULD NOT take a car. No I won't consider a Landrover.
Can I emmigrate to and retire young in Mexico? I am a 40 year old single male who inherited $1 million. Is that enough to retire in Mexico and live there without working? I would want a beach house in a civilized area (restaurants, theatres, etc.) Has anyone else done this? Do I have to give up my US citizenship (I do not want to do so)? That "Just leave" answer was hilarious!! I am laughing my ass off!! But I am looking for serious answers.

What would happen to Mexico when millions of American migrate there (boomers retiring to better climate)? Plunging into Baja Leading the charge south of the border, Southland buyers are snatching up bargain-priced retirement or second homes on the beach. By Ann Brenoff, Times Staff Writer October 22, 2006 THE trick to buying a home in Mexico, say those who have done it, is to not leave your brain at the border. The days of writing up deals on bar napkins and sealing them with a handshake and a shot of tequila are over — or should be, experts say. That said, you can buy an oceanfront home in Baja for about one-third of what it would cost 30 minutes north of the border. And that alone was probably enough motivation for the 1.5 million Americans who own homes in Mexico today, according to estimates from the Mexico Assn. of Real Estate Professionals. The number is expected to jump to 12 million within 20 years as more baby boomers retire south of the border.
If an American wants to retire to Mexico, how much income do you have to prove? 400 times the minimum wage in Mexico City, per month. And if you have a spouse, an additional 200 time the Minimum Wage, per month. How about the illegals be charged 400 times our minimum wage in New York City, per month. Fair is Fair !!!!! Oh, and you provide your own food and medical care. http://www.mexperience.com/liveandwork/immigration.htm Mexico's minimum wage is about US$4.25 per day
I am moving to Mexico to be with my daughters who live and work in San Jose Del Cabo. How do I get the propers? I will be retired and have an income through pensions and investments. We plan on residing in Mexico on a permanent basis and even purchased a house in Los Lomas.I will apply for Mexican automobile insurance and will have medical coverage through my daughters policy as a dependant.
MEXICO SURE START Selling oil to CHINA, Then USA WOULD GET UPSET.? ALL THIS TALK ABOUT MEXICANS AND ILLEGALS GO BACK WHERE YOU COME FROM. BUT, STOP AND THINK WE ARE TWO COUNTRY THAT BORDER EACH OTHER. THERE ARE OVER 300,OOO AMERICANS LIVING IN MEXICO. RETIRED, BUSINESS PEOPLE,VACTIONEERS, CRIMINALS AND SOME—-TIRED OF AMERICA(TO YOUR SURPRISE TIRED OF AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE). RETIREES THAT LIVE ON S.S CANNOT AFFORD MEDICAL CARE IN AMERICA. I LIVE A COMFORTABLE LIFE IN MIGUEL ALLENDE, LAKE CHAPALA, CANCUN, PUERTO VALLARTA ETC. YES, THE LAW IS DIFFERENT IN MEXICO THAT LAND CANNOT BE OWNED BY OTHER THAN MEXICAN CITIZENS. BUT AFTER GUADALUPE—HILDAGO TREATY ARE AMERICAN SURPRISED, BUT THEN 99% OF AMERICANS, DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE LIES. WHAT I AM SAYING THE BASHING OF MEXICANS IN AMERICA, THE UNWELCOME SIGNS ARE STARTING TO COME UP IN MEXICO. JUST REMEMBER MEXICO IMPORT OIL TO USA, FOR A PRICE CHEAPER THAN OPEC. USA NEEDS MEXICO MORE THAN U THINK. MAYBE MEXICO SURE START SELLING OIL TO CHINA, THEN USA WOULD GET UPSET.
Have you ever considered retiring or relocating to Mexico? My wife and I have recently attended a relocation and real estate seminar in Puerto Vallarta. The event was great and the people were very informative. We are seriously considering a move to Mexico but were curious to see how many others are out there. We found the seminar through www.latinamericanhomeinvestment.com which seems to be a pretty good site with a lot of information. I suppose we are looking to hear from others who are seriously looking as well. We see a lot of potential and an improved pace of life in Mexico. Still, it is a big change. How many Americans and Canadians are actually moving down there or at least thinking about it?

Retire in Mexico? My aunt is talking about retiring in Mexico. I don't think it would be beneficial for her. However, she is determined. The reason I am against the idea is because her only source of income is a small government check of approx $600. Are there any advantages, especially financial, for her to make such a drastic move? Help, please.

Annex the States of Mexico to the US? There is apparently a tide of migration from Mexico to the US. If people are leaving their homes to find a better life, wouldn't it be better to provide that better life, economic oportunities and better govenment to those people in their own homeland? Mexico is a beautiful country with an abundance of natural resources, and it would provide beautiful ocean-front property for retired Americans. Are there any good reasons not to annex it to the US for the benefit of all?

Need to find somebody in Mexico!!? I need to find somebody in Mexico. My fiance's grandfather is an American citizen and he retired to Mexico b/c of cheaper living. He has diabetes and had one leg amputated in Mexico. He came to visit for Christmas and his other foot was badly burned b/c he kept by a heater way too long (he couldn't feel it b/c of poor blood circulation caused by the diabetes). We begged him to see a doctor in America but he is hard-headed and said its cheaper in Mexico. When he got back, he called us every week like he always did and all of a sudden his calls stopped in March. Not only that, his bank statements come to our house and I looked at them. The only activity on the account is the automatic deposits from his retirement. He hasn't had any activity since the time he stopped calling. He sent us something a long time ago and gave us his address, but when we write there it comes back as a bad address. I e-mailed the Mexican Consulate and have rec'd no response. Can anybody please help?
