Social Security Retirement Benefits From Both France and the USA? I worked the for past 7 years in France. I can collect French social security retirement benefits at age 60 there which is in about 8 months. They want me to supply all my work related information from the US. Should I provide this information to them? How will any French retirement benefit affect my US benefits? The majority of my work experience for 30+ years is from the USA.
Does social security retirement benefits count as child support? My 10 year old son gets social security benefits from his father (who is 67). I am going to get a divorce from him. Does that count as child support, or will he have to pay out of his pocket? He is still working as of now. (BTW, I am a female... ignore my avatar)
Is there a place on the web where I can examine a sample Social Security Retirement Benefits claim form? This would be the very most basic form to claim social security benefits at age 62 or age 65. I want to see a sample form, completed or uncompleted, it does not matter either way is fine. I just want to see the basic form -- what do they ask -- what do the boxes look like. I know people have claimed thteir social security retirement benefits before me -- I am not the first -- so can I just see a form from a prior year -- with information filled in or just a blank form? I spent 2 hours today trying to accomplish this seemingly simple task -- but could not succeed. What I need is a link that will take me to the form I need -- PDF is fine HTML is fine Windows is fine. I just want to look it over. The Social Security Administration is apparently so afraid that someone will file a paper form -- they won't even show you what the paper form looks like -- so please don't give me links to the SSA because I know they will not show me the form. But there must be some sort instruction book written at some time in the recent past that shows a completed (or blank) form -- that's all I need. It's just the basic form to claim retirement benefits -- the monthly social security payouts. I'm not ready to file it, or even to fill it out, I just want to see what the form looks like. I don't want to have to file a FOIA request to get a copy of it. Can anybody tell me where I can find one on the web?
Are social security retirement benefits considered child support? the father is "retired", owns rental property, stock, property, family business and has his business incorporated, yet claims his only income is social security retirement. he pays zero in child support and i was told the social security benefits our child is getting will be all i get for child support. he will pay zero although he is still receiving income from other means.
Can social security retirement benefits be figured on unreported earnings? SS says "Remember, it's your earnings, not the amount of taxes you paid or the number of credits you've earned, that determine your benefit amount." I didn't file taxes in the 1980s when I earned my highest income. My income now is at poverty level and I could never afford to pay taxes on what I once earned and didn't report. If I reported it now would it count toward my retirement benefits, or would I go to jail?? I understand that I would have to file back returns and that the penalties and interest would be enormous, more than I could pay. People negotiate settlements with the IRS all the time, however, and that might be possible for me. My question is, if I went through that process for just one year--say 1985, would the earnings for that year apply to my retirement benefit? And would they be figured retroactively? If there is no relationship between income earned and taxes paid it suggests that might be the case, absurd as it sounds.
social security retirement benefits? i recently applied for social security benefits i am turning 62 since i was mostly a homemaker taking care of the kids worked very little part time later .i applied for my husbands social security he is retired, however i just got a response, they based the benefits i will be receiving on my earnings which is quite low, that is why i wanted to go on my husbands, any advise how to have this mistake corrected
Social Security? Some people need and depend on SS money to live on after they retire. Other, wealthy people do not have to depend on that money for retirement and they still receive the benefit of social security and the governement will not let them refuse. I someone wishes to refuse retirement benefit from social security, why can't they? and maybe help someone else who is in need or put that money back into to pot for us people that by the time we retire there will be no ss money left?
Lottery Winnings and Social Security Retirement Benefits? If a person wins a million dollars at age 57 and is scheduled to be paid $50,000 per year for 20 years and then retires in one of those years...at age 62 (year #5 of 20)... and according to that persons Social Security Statement at age 57 had earned enough in "working wages"to be eligible for say $1,200 per month in Social Security Retirement Benefits... and assuming that person continues to work until retirement, how will or will those Social Security Retirement Benefits be affected when that person actually retires at age 62? Bottom line.. does Social Security calculate the Lottery Winnings for each year into the benefit calculation or is it just the "working wages" that are used and the Social Security Retirement benefit stays the same .... at $1,200 per month?
Will a common law wife be able to collect social security benefits? Or will his first wife be entitled? My father has been separated from my mother for about 40 years. He lived with another woman for 10 years after the separation from my mother, and then left that one to live with another one with whom he has been for more than 10. He never legally divorced my mother. He is now retired, receiving SS benefits and a retirement plan from a company. He lives in California, and the second woman has become common law wife seemingly entitled to all benefits of a wife. My father does not want to make a will, and has only appointed beneficiary of his retirement benefits, from the company he worked for, to my mother. Will the common law wife be able to argue those retirement funds, and the social security benefits are hers because of her rights as the common law wife? Or, if my father creates a will designating my mother, his first wife, to be the sole beneficiary override the common law wife benefits? My mother did not work, and hence, all the SS benefits are exclusively through my father's work.
Social Security Retirement -The age you expect to get benefits and will you get all the money paid into SS? My example: I retired at age 62+1month and paid into Social Security to that time $71,000+dollars. I will be 69 next month and have received 62,000+dollars Next year I my payments will exceed my contributions to Social Security, $71,000. My employers contributions to my account are about the same as mine. I do not count this because I fully realize this is the money given to none working people and illegals getting benefits.
Social Security benefits vs. Senatorial retirement..? Does it bother you that, while our Social Security program is estimated to collapse by 2017, Congressmen, those who make the laws, as well as formed and control Social Security, have their own retirement benefits? The 2-year term laws were passed so that Congressmen would have to live with the laws that they made. But this kinda.. goes against that theory. Doesn't it..?
Does SSI Disability interfere with Social Security Retirement? Hello, I need some answers here. I am a Breastcancer Survivor, In fact, 3 years today. I am wondering about SSI Disability. I know I may not have Social Security when I retire. But, I am wondering if it interferes with your Social Security Retirement Benefits when you retire? Thank You, Kaloni
Is there a difference between social security benefits in California or Arizona? My parents are thinking about moving to Arizona after their retirement. They been working and paying social security benefits in California for the last few decades. Now they're trying to find out if there's any difference in retirement benefits between California or Arizona. I heard that social security benefit based solely on the amount you contributed during your working life, not on where you live when you retire. Is that true? Is there any other potential benefit for retiring in California (other than weather or higher living cost)? Thank you very much.
Social Security Retirement benefits? I am retiring at age 58, and will stop contributing to SS. When I start drawing SS at age 62 how do they base your checks? Is it based on your highest income level or your income from age 57 to age 62? does any one know or do I need to call the SS office.
If I stop working at age of 40 how would that affect my social security benefits? How would the ss payments be affected? Is there anything I can do to maximize my benefits? Can I contact social security adminstrtion and tell them I will not work until 62? Would it help? How many years in the past do they look back to calculate retirement benefits? I am not talking about early retirement at age of 62. I am in USA.
S corp - Social Security - tax question.? 62 year old sole proprietor, will work for the next few years making over $100,000.00 per year. Also considering taking early Social Security retirement benefits. I have made a good income for a long time and have probably maxed out on Social Security retirement benefits. Social Security says that “Operating as an S corp will give you more money to reinvest. The downside is that you will have smaller Social Security benefits in the future.” I’m aware that money retained or distributed as dividends from an S corp. are not subject to SS or Medicare taxes. Should I form an S corp? Is it OK to take early SS retirement benefits? Benefits and disadvantages. Thank you for your help.
Can Social Security survive the Baby Boomer retirement? Right now for every one person drawing Social Security benefits there are 7 workers paying into Social Security. With in the next 10 years that will become 2 workers for every one person drawing benefits. If the average person draws $800 a monthe then the workers will have to contribute $400 dollars a month to Social security to cover the payments. How can Social Security survive that? Should it survive? Galveston, TX. was used as an experiment in the early 80's. Every worker in Galveston was given the opportunity to withdraw from paying into the SS admin. They were allowed to invest their money in their own retirement plans. Those people are now retiring with 4 to 5 times the amount of money than those who elected not too.
What happens to my retirement benefits? If my income was less than the minimum filing requirement income for last 6 years & if I did not file the tax return nor did I pay Social Security then how would that affect my after retirement Social security & heath care benefits like Medicare ? Thanks
social security benefits? My former husband passed away a few weeks ago and I have been told that I could draw from his Social Security retirement fund. We were married for 25 yrs.
Social Security benefits for local government workers? I emigrated here from the U.K. ten years ago. I worked in the private sector for two years, prior to moving into local government employment, where SS taxes are not stopped from my pay. If I remain in government employment, I am not going to accrue the 40 credits required for SS benefits upon retirement. Can someone please explain what SS benefits I will NOT be entitled to, and how government employees can overcome this? The SSA.gov website is not particularly helpful in explaining this, so anyone's personal knowledge would be appreciated
Question about working and social security? If I were to increase my work from 2 days to 3 days a week, would I lose my social security? I currently earn $7.35 a hour(but on Sundays get a $1 more) but am going to get a either a forty- five cent or fifty cent raise in March. I was thinking of working Thursday(our weekest night and same for Friday)- Saturday night . I work at a local Walmart doing overnight matience. I copied this information from Social Security website to help with this question. Would adding a extra night to my work week affect my social security? SSA uses the formulas below, depending on your age, to determine how much your benefit must be reduced: * If you are under normal (or full) retirement age (FRA): when you start getting your Social Security payments, $1 in benefits will be deducted for each $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2008 that limit is $13,560 and for 2007, that limit is $12,960. Remember, the earliest age that you can receive Social Security retirement benefits remains 62 I also have disabities. I have Ashberger's Syndrome, and I'm a also cancer survivor(testicular). I am a US citizen. I was born and raised here. My family history goes all the back to the mayflower.
what states allows one to receive full retirement benefits from their educational career and social security? If a person spends 20 years in one career which has Social Security witholding and then goes to another career (teaching) and spends years there as well . . . Missouri and Illinois are two states you cannot receive full benefit of both even in the proportion you have paid in to both . . . I am trying to find out what states will allow a person to receive all benefits duly earned in one's career. Also, many people work through college, summers, and second jobs while also teaching and are required to pay Social Security through many of those jobs, but teacher's retirement through the educational income. Many states do not limit retirement income by denying some form duly earned. I would like to know which ones do not limit teacher/workers like Missouri and Illinois do. I hope this clarifies the question further. I know Washington state does not limit teachers if they have paid into and earned both types. I know there are several others, I'm just not sure how to find out which ones

U.S. Social Security Windall - Offset - Regulations? I currently receive U.S. Social Security retirement benefits. I also worked in France for 7 years for a private French company and paid into the French Social Security system, thereby entitling me to benefits, Would receiving such benefits from France subject me to the U.S. Social Security Windfall regulations and therefore have all or part of the sums paid by France withdrawn from my US monthly benefits? If so, is there a minimum amount after which this would apply (e.g. all earnings from French Social Security over XXX Dollars per month)? This whole issue does not seem fair as I paid into the French system just as I paid into the US system. Thank you.
Social Security / retirement benifits? Hi, here's my question. My dad turned 65 years of age in feb. of 2008, for his retirement benefits he is getting $466 a month since 1997 or 1998 and for Social security $779 since he turned 62.. Everyone we talk to says he should be getting more than that. Also he cannot work, he went to get his eyes checked and they gave him prescription glasses, but he sees exactly the same with them on. He took them back and they couldn't understand why he couldn't see with them, how would he be able to qualify for supplemental security income? I'm not trying to just get him money, but trying to get him the money he deserves, he has worked for 50 years and the money he has he cannot live off of. Thanks for any help given.
No more social Security? What is going to replace Social Security retirement benefits in the States once Social Security Pension is all fazed out? How will people survive if say the corporation they were working for goes under and there is no more Pension plan? How will they survive once they are already old and can no longer work?
Replacing social Security would provide what benefits.? I want to elimingate SS and I ask what would apersons retirement benefit be if: over 40 years you earned an average salary of 30,000 per year. You invested in a fund at 6% and your employer matched at 6%. Your investment earns at 5% per year. How much would you amass in your fund, and how much could you draw with out depleting principal when you retire. I am looking for of course the power of compounding and what the government is stealing form SS recipitants due to loss of compounding. Because they are currently spending the fund. Would the average citizen be better off with a system similar to FERS(federal employees retirement system) than Social security. This is similar to a ? I previously asked but the answers missed the boat.
Do you get US social security benefits for life once you retire? I'm not American but am a permanent resident and married to an American; since I started working here, SS deductions have been taken from my paycheck, which I have no problem with. My question is this: upon reaching the age of retirement, will the SSA pay me benefits until I die (even if I should live 200 years), or only for a certain period of time? Does that depend on the circumstances? If so, what determines that? I couldn't find a straight answer to that on www.ssa.gov. I heard that my wife's grandparents will stop getting benefits at the end of this year or the next and would have to sell their house and become dependents of one or the other of their daughters. I find that rather depressing and so was wondering about my own situation come the time of my own retirement. When answering, please assume the US social security system will survive forever; I am simply asking a theoretical question. Thank you!
If illegals using your social security number pay taxes, who gets the retirement benefits from those taxes? So, if my social security number is stolen and being used by an illegal to forge documents, get credit cards and loans, etc., then by the time all of this surfaces, I'm stuck cleaning up the mess while Uncle Sam collects the extra tax money and I have years of credit damage to try to clear up. Just one more example of how illegals are messing up the lives of legal citizens. Social security numbers are stolen by illegals every day.

Social Security benefits in Child Support? I am divorced for five years now. My ex husband will retire this year, at 65. We have a 9 year old son, and I want to know if that social security amount will be considered "INCOME" for child support? I realize he is gettng a retirement from his school, but is social security in addition to that ? I live in NY
Is it true that congress does not pay into Social Security, but draw their salaries for life on retirement? I got this email: SOCIAL SECURITY: Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it. You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan works like this:When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000 with their wives drawing $275, 000 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. They pay$0 for this plan. OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK. Meanwhile the average person SS is $1000 mo.
social security? what determines your social security monthly benefits when you retire. is it the accumulation of all the years you have workedand contributed to social security, or is the most important time period the last 15 years leading up to your retirement.
Question about the $12,960 income limit on Social Security Surviors benefits? My mother wants to start working but she is also getting surviors benefits since this MAY 2007. I read on the sociacl security website that they will deduct some of the benefits if she earns more than $12,960. I have a few questions about this. 1) Does this 12,960 income limit include what she is currently getting for the surviors benefits? 2) She was working prior to getting the surviors benefits this year in 2007, so does this income limit include what she has already made prior to getting the benefits this MAY 2007? 3) If they do indeed deduct her benefits if she exceeds the limit, is it true that once she reaches full retirement age that she will get back what is witheld? 4) Is it true that once she reaches full retirement age that there is no limit as to her income and still be able to receive full benefits with nothing held back? 5) What exactly is "Full retirement age?" Thank you. I could call Social Security but I can never get through to them
Divorce: City Retirement plans and Social Security valuation? My soon to be ex husband was a police officer and participated in a mandatory private retirement plan (worth about 90k) instead of putting into social security. I worked for a private high tech company and contributed to social security. His plan is a defined contribution plan and he can take hardship withdrawals from it. My social security isn't accessible to me and not sure it will be when I'm 65 they way things are going. He also has a defined benefit retirement plan worth 64k. I have an ESPP worth 64k and 401k worth 61k. We live in WA if that helps. Can he say that my social security and his city plan equal out each other? How do I put a value on my Social security if so?
Why are my grandchildren not elgible for benefits on my social security? I have custody of two grandkids until they are 18, ages 9 and 13. I took early retirement at 64, their stepgrandpa is on social security disability. I received a check each month from the state for the kids. I have had these kids for 9 years. Can someone explain to me why they would not be elgible for benefits?
Should Congress de-link Social Security Taxes from Benefits? One for the Honors Class. Lots of people are calling for Congress to eliminate the cap on Social Security contributions -- but not raise the resulting benefits. This would de-link the taxes one pays with the amount of benefits one receives in retirement (which has been a fundamental principle). Would this backfire by weakening support for Social Security and making people think it's a Ponzi Scheme?
looking for info on not having to pay social security taxes? i heard you can get back all the money you've paid into your social security benefits and sign off to not receive any benefits when you're retirement age and they stop taking the ss taxes from your paychecks. if this can be done i would like to know how to go about it thanks
Does Social Security benefit those people who it was supposedly designed to benefit? Social Security was originally passed to provide retirement income to lower wage earners. The benefit structure, however, favors those people who don't need the money in retirement. If your lifetime earnings don't allow any accumulation of wealth and you continue to work to make ends meet, you can forfeit some or all of your SS benefits. On the other hand, people who acquire a comfortable nest egg can collect full benefits. Isn't this a bit lopsided? Is the Social Security system not serving the people for whom it was initially designed? In reality, is the Social Security department just another tax revenue source for the government? Is there any reason why we should keep a system that doesn't serve its original purpose any longer?
Suspended animation + retirement benefits = Profit? In the future people will be able to spend extended periods in suspended animation. Assuming they will continue to collect on their retirement benefits (e.g. Social Security or pensions), how will future generations deal with the millions of people who refuse to die?
Social Security Disability Benefits, rental income? I am the representative payee for my dad. He is disabled (Altziemer’s) and is receiving SS Disability benefits. If I invest my dad’s retirement money in real estate, more specifically a rental property, and my dad receives rental income (e.g., $500 per month) from the rental property he owns, how is this rental income classify with respect to income that can cause a reduction in his monthly disability check amount from SSA? Would this be investment income, or treated like income from a job or self employment? In other words, can this rental income cause a reduction in my dad's SS Disability checks? In this case, my dad would not be doing anything himself regarding the rental property. He is unable to. As his representative payee, I would make the investment for him, I would manage the property, and my dad would simply obtain the financial benefit (rental income). Thanks for your help.
