retirement oz

Is the Social Security Administration supposed to mail you something when you have 65th birthday?

My husband's 65th birthday was in January but nothing has been sent to him about enrolling. I know he is not eligible for "full" Social Security retirement benefit until he is 65 plus 10 months, but I thought Medicare was still tied to one's turning 65.

  1. No, Medicare kicks in at the same time as Social Security. If one's delayed, so is the other.
  2. Call your local SS office & they will be glad to help you. Monday is not a good day for calling, as it's a very busy day. Try mid week.
  3. I am 24 ant they just sent me something. Tells me how much I am owed one day.
  4. He is qualified for free part A at age 65 even if not receiving social security benefits yet. Contact the Social Security Administration.
  5. Call SSA to apply for Medicare. We don't send out anything out to people who turn 65 unless they are already receiving benefits then Medicare automatically kicks in.
  6. Medicare is still tied to one's turning 65. He should have gone to a Social Security office several months before turning 65 to sign up. He should not delay further. - There are time limits for picking a supplemental health insurance plan to go along with Medicare.
