retirement oz

Do members of Congress pay in/ receive Social Security benefits?

I recieved an email encouraging me to refrain from voting for any politician that does not support reform of thier current retirement plan. Can you validate and give me a reputable link to verify this info?

  1. no, federal employees pay into a separate pension plan, not SS
  2. Nope, they have their own plan which makes SS look like a dog turd compared to caviar.
  3. Congress has paid into Social Security since 1983. They also collect Social Security benefits when they are eligible. You can check the info you receive in emails at www.snopes.com. They will tell you if the info you receive is correct or not, what makes it right or wrong, and other information about the topic. You can also search for other email information sent to you.
  4. Their system is much better than Social (in)Security - what a shock huh? Both parties basically act like royalty when it comes to taking care of themselves at our expense.
  5. Why is it that we are concerned about what they are receiving in Social Security Benefits, when they all seem to be able to agree on a pay raise for themselves, without ANY opposition from any of the other members of Congress? Yet, when their votes are needed to pass a issue that would benefit states and their wellbeing, they argue and argue with each other, sometimes having it end in a draw, that will be taken up again during the upcoming seesion, or fail it and take on another important issue? When we need them, they play games, dragging their political feet, but when they need us, they natually assume that we would approve of their recent payraise and vote all together? That's really nice, to know they are all in our corner, helping to better shape the American Economy, gosh, I feel so relieved, don't you? Thank you,
