who would i talk to about opening a IRA or planning for retirement?
my husband and i work for places that don't offer ira or any kind of retirement plans. We have been saving some money in a normal savings account for a little while, but i want to move on to something better. My husband says to keep it in the normal savings account, i told him maybe a ira or investing may be better. i told him that there are many more ways of making more money than a normal savings account. We don't know where to start or who to talk too. any suggestions?

- ask your employer or a financial planner -ask friends for a referral.
- You can go to your local bank and speak to a financial analyst. There is usually no cost to you and they can give you some very good information about opening a retirement account. Good Luck
- Early on in my twenties I got my own little account with T.Rowe Price and they took $50 out of my checking and put it into a mutual fund for me...it was a great starting point for me and I know they have all kinds of options based on your future goals and current situation. You should check them out...as well as the "fools" (links below)
- Schwab is a no-fee brokerage, they can put you into an IRA based on no-load mutual funds. Also, pay the money to work up a financial plan with an INDEPENDENT planner; he'll tell you how to make it all work. It's completely worth the money and the effort; if your husband won't go, then do it without him. Expect to spend a few hundred dollars building a plan. Good luck to you!
