- Be bold. Well, you old coffin dodger, have a fantastic time, try not to miss us too much... That kind of thing.
- That is nice of you. Try telling a couple of stories that happened to him. If he he has been at the same school for a long time, I am sure he has plenty of funny/interesting stories that happened during his tenure there. Ask the other professors on his department for some funny things that happened to him during this time there. Then, you can talk about how this particular teacher did something that you will always remember or something that you learned from him. It is quite a privilege to be chosen by your peers to give a speech like this. Good luck with it! I am sure you will do a great job. By the way, you might want to get the teacher a retirement gift. Talk to the others students... nothing too expensive, just something thoughtful.
- Go to human resources and get her resume (C.V) and learn something about her. Interview the staff and kids and mention how long she's been there, what she's taught, comments from the staff and students. Say she will be missed and you know she will continue to contribute to the community. Wish her well and ask her if she has any parting comments.
- If you are writing one it should say something like she will now have time to catch up on things she never had time for. and don't forget congrats.
