retirement oz

How much per year would a single young persson need to earn to live a comfortable living in So. California?

By comfortable living, I mean they can rent or own an apartment or house within walking distance to a beach. Have enough money to afford a late model sporty convertible. It doesn't have to be an outrageously expensive Jaguar, but something nice. Have enough dough to eat out a couple times a week, travel, can afford new clothes when they need them, etc., and still have enough leftover to save for retirement and emergencies. How much per year would that person need to earn to afford such a lifestyle in coastal Southern California?

  1. $150,000 a year
  2. Approximately $120,000 a year. rent 2400 a month (28,000) Car 400 a month (4800) Food for home 400 a month (4800) Eating Out 800 a month (9600) Auto Insurance 200 a month (2400) Direct TV 60 a month (720) Entertainment 1000 a month (12000) so just monthly expenses to have a so-so life out here that is a net income of 60,000. That doesnt include car repairs, moving expenses, or travel. This is onyl to rent. If you want to own a condo it will cost you about 750,000 to 1.5 mil depending on how close you want to licve to the ocean. Of course there are much more expensive condos... but this is minimum.
  3. For the beach cities I'm guessing you'd need to make about $55,000 to $65,000 a year to afford a beach apt., a car payment, savings, and living without credit cards. You'd probably still need credit cards even at that pay scale.
  4. Based on you beach requirement i would say between $150,000 to $250,000. Now if you want to get a Toyota, live more in West LA or the Valley, buy an outfit per season aand one or two pairs of shoes a season. I would say $60,000.
  5. A million dollars
  6. 50,000-70,000 a year
  7. You could live like that for about 125K+ plus a year. Depending upon the area.
  8. These people are not trying to be funny or sarcastic, these figures are dead-on for what you're describing.
  9. The cost of living is dramatically more expensive in Southern California than it is in Dublin. Beach property is prime real estate and very expensive. The $100,000 plus U. S. Dollars annual salary is an honest, true answer for the type of life style you indicated. As "Copestir" stated, living a more modest life style in a more inland area could be done in the $ 50.000-$60,000 salary range.
  10. A hell-of-alot, foo.
