What is the best way to save for Retirement for Small Business owner?

My husband and I own a small business - what is the best option for both of us to save for retirement and why? We are both in our 20's right now.

  1. Have a small amount taken out of your paychecks before taxes and put into a 401K. If you're in your 20's then it will add up.
  2. Roth IRA. Max it out every year. Also, get into a mutual fund, then roll over the profits back into the fund.
  3. It depends on you tax bracket. Based on you age, I would put 75% into a roth Ira and 25% into a 401k or regular Ira. If you in a high tax bracket, then reduce the amount in the roth for tax advantages
  4. Here are a few resources. Hope they help you out
  5. Need more facts...What type of business is it? how much do you want to put away (dont' say as much as possible, give me a $$ amount)? how much do you make? Do you have other employees? do you anticipate having more employees? Is your business an S-Corp, Sole-Proprietorship, C-Corp? Exactly how old are you? 22 is way diff then 28. Which type of retirement plan you ultimately choose is dependent upon the answer to those questions. edit your question and provide the additional details and I can give you a better answer. IRA's work if you are in a high tax bracket and don't want to put money away. ROTH IRA's work if you're young or in a low tax bracket. SEP's and SIMPLE plans work if you want to put away some but not much more than an IRA. 401k's work if you want to put away far more then you would in a ROTH or traditional IRA. Defined Benefit Plans work if you are high income and need large deductions. Now you can see why just spouting off an answer doesn't help you much.
