Public Comments

  1. Too soon. Sad end for a noble ship.
  2. It was retired in the mid 60s (because it was not a jet). It was not used in Viet Nam.
  3. 1960. So they wouldn't have been used in Vietnam.
  4. more like Korea
  5. The improved version of the B29, the B50 (aka B29D), was last used as a strategic bomber in 1955 but was used as a aerial refueling tanker, intelligence gathering, and search and rescue platform until 1965. The article did mention it was used in Southeast Asia up until 1965 when a tanker broke up in flight from corrosion.
  6. No, after the Korean war in 1954.
  7. The B-29 airframe was officially retired in September of 1960, before we entered the Vietnam conflict.
  8. It was retired because it was slow and couldn't carry as much as the bombers that replaced it. Even the B 52s were sitting ducks in Vietnam to SAMs.
