What do sex workers do when they retire?

I'm writing a novel. One of the main characters is a bachelor and just uses a sex worker for intimate contact. I'm currently planning to retire the girl he frequents. I would like her reason to be that she's made enough money to get into real estate and she's decided to do that for awhile. I need to know if this is realistic, or I need to know other things a sex worker might do after getting out of the business. What do sex workers do when they retire?

  1. Some write books - Aiden Chambers, for example. Others move into other lines of work - bars and things like that. Not many go on to have a glamorous retirement. Some, if they're clever enough with their money, move on to produce porn or own brothels.
  2. Open a brothel and hire new and younger women to work for her. After all, that is what her expertise is and she would know how to handle the girls.
  3. try to interview someone who has been a sex worker for you to have more resources of things that can make your novel be more realistic.
  4. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. They can do the same thing everyone else does when they decide they hate their jobs: find a new one. :)
  5. the same things other people do. hookers are people too.
  6. I'd go with DreamWeaver above. Sounds realistic and believable if the girl you are writing about has a bit of common sense and isn't the ditzy type (which I'm assuming is the case if you were going to have her get into real estate). But then, of course, you would almost have to have the bachelor use the girl's girls for his intimate contact (just seems like the logical thing to do)....so perhaps she would have to move away to start her own brothel if you didn't want the story to follow that line. So....if you want her to stay in the story....but not have the guy using her as a Madame for other hookers.....then perhaps you should go with the real estate idea and make sure the story very clearly outlines her background, personality, and growth so that getting into real estate makes sense.
  7. I doubt that most of them have enough money to start up their own business. They probably just pick up low wage jobs at convenience stores and the like.
  8. Reminisce, on what they'll miss.
