Would you work outside the home if you had enough money to retire early?

No one in my office who is over 50 seems to happy to be there. Many of them have told me they can not wait until they turn 62 and can take Social Security. Many people in the office are hoping to retire before they are 62 and move to volunteer or part time work. They are burned out and show it! How about you? If you had the ability to retire from your job/career as early as 50 would you do so, if you could swing it financially? Or would you miss the gang at work and having a place to go to each day? At what age is early retirement a good thing or is it just a sign or lazyness?

1. If you are finacially independant, you can retire at any age. Most people become burned out when they live pay check to pay check at a job they hate.
2. the problem may be your office ( and the repetition over the years ) i would pursue hobbies at any point i could retire ( as opposed to earning money for my employer which is what work actually is )

4. first of all i will work outside if it is hot! i think you should retired at the age of 59 i think .i am not sure about that later i will answer it again if i could.okay see ya.and i will retired at the age of 50 years old.
5. If I was financially able, I'd retire as early as possible (unless of course I really loved my job and wasn't burnt out). I'd likely take some time off, to rest or travel, and then would love to work P-T, ideally something with animals or small children. I'd even be willing to go back to school to be certified if need be. Mostly to keep active, and have some "fun money" rather than out of necessity.
6. Must be a union office. They sound burned out, possibly your employer isn't providing for a corporate culture that allows for them to be interested in their work, monotony can do that. I have the resources to retire, but then there are always other projects and ideas that can be built on. If all you want to do with your retirement is sit around all day - that's laziness. If you want to retire so you can move on to other interests - that's job dissatifaction.
7. The people at your job sound very very burned out from working at a job they don't like. However, I have known many people who wait to retire because they like the work. I also have a few relatives who retired but then immediately started new full time jobs or even careers doing something that they loved or found interesting. Unless you have very few expenses or are making a ton of money at work,(like over $500K a year) you will never be able to save enough during your working years to actually retire early and have enough to live well. If you knew how much most retired people actually make you would be unpleasantly surprised.
