Shame on the News channels for continued reporting about rich peoples homes threatened or burned by fire.?

There is numerous fires going on in southern california. Thousands of homes are being destroyed by fire. The Malibu fire is just 1 small piece of it all. Yet the news channels keep talking about rich peoples homes. That is a discrace to all the normal average people who are losing homes. It makes me sick that some of my favorite news channels are making some big deal about a small small percentage of the problem. Most of these homes are not rich people like CNN, FOX, MSNBC would like to report. I'm a retired fireman and I've lived in so cal my whole life. These are not all hollywood stars homes like they are reporting. Shame on the news channels. If you are going to report like responsible reporters, do it without sensationalizing things. Most of these homes are not rich people. You are idiots and you can't even spell the names of the towns effected half the time.. Is there any other californians that have a comment about this?

Public Comments

  1. I am not a Californian, but I agree with you 100%...when the hurricane hit New Orleans or one hits Florida, do they constantly report what rich persons homes were destroyed? Sort of shows who rules the media, doesnt it?
  2. Wow, I keep seeing comments like this and am wondering which news you are watching. We are in San Diego and glued to the local news for evacuation instructions, updates, road closures, evacuation centers becoming full or relocating, who does and does not have electricity, phone or gas, etc. Our coverage is focused on providing information and the people in our neighborhoods and those surrounding us who have lost homes are just families with kids, retirees, young couples who just moved into their first home, NOT celebrities. Maybe those of us in harm's way aren't watching what news the rest of the country is receiving about our fires because we are just too busy helping our neighbors, watching the fires, and sitting on pins and needles waiting to be the next ones to lose the homes we worked a lifetime earning!
  3. During Katrina, they reported the poor people houses all the time. What exactly are they supposed to do?
  4. I agree. I live in the UK, and all I hear is 'David Arquette's house', or 'The latest celebrity to be forced to be evacuate is....' Ordinary people are suffering just as much. In fact, they are probably suffering more because they, unlike the celebrities, don't have the money to buy another house. It's awful that they are making celebrities the point of this, when there are others who have much more to lose than them. My sympathy and prayers go to EVERYONE caught in that horror, not just the celebrities.
  5. CAn't agree w/you more. I have a cousin that lost his home Monday evening and is far from the Hollywood f'n sterotype that the rest of America is hate mongering about. He is a fire fighter fighter and his cell phn and land line is completly dead. WTF is wrong w/ these people? I was born in southern CA, and now live in Nor CA and I'm sick to stomach w/these comments on here. It's a natural disaster for god sakes.
  6. I feel the same way. I don't give a damn if mel gibson or some other rich schmuck loses their home. I only feel bad for the ordinary citizens caught up in this. I am also tired of these new reports on the rich. They act like a huge mansion burning to the ground is a tragedy.
  7. Not a Californian.. but a Texan, and we are keeping a close eye on that. It's very foreign to us because Texas has its share of hurricanes and tropical storms, but nothing like those fires! I agree, there is only one station here who reports on those fires without mentioning some celebrity. Since they have many homes , who can really sympathize if they lose one to fire. But what about that single mom with four children and has no family to take her in. That's what I think about. As for being a fireman... my cowboy hat is off to you !!!
  8. Amen brother, not like they can afford to start over with all their insurance... unlike most of the people in New orleans
