retirement oz

Can anyone tell me how I can make a motivational / inspirational speech/ lecture in Los Angeles?

I am a writer and have written a book recently on the thirty things everyone needs to know (and apply) in order to retire rich and early, besides leading a happy and successful life. I wish to teach in LA. How can I have an audience? I mean how must I go about to be able to get an audience so that I may lecture. Are there companies / firms/ organizers who accept new comers like me and organize an evening? I am extremely keen on teaching what I wrote. I have the gift of the gab and do not have a shred of doubt that the class/evening/show will go pretty well. Could you help me out guys, by telling me how I should proceed in this matter? Thanks in advance

  1. I think you should follow what you want to do, and congrats on your book being published... I really have no clue on how to help you though. I'm very sorry
  2. This is an extremely complex question, since so many variables apply. Was your book self-published or do you have a publisher? If you have a publisher, then you should seek their advice on how to publicise your book. This usually takes the form of newspaper articles for a first time author. If the sales start going through the roof then this would be swiftly followed by bookshop signings, plus radio and TV slots to talk about the book. These are stepping stones to getting you and your book known to the wider public. Only then will a promoter, in league with your publisher, take a chance on setting up a lecture tour for you. This is because you will not be able to draw people in sufficient numbers until you and your book are being talked about. If you are self-published, then you will have to arrange these stepping stones for yourself. You will need to employ an experienced promoter to do the groundwork for you (and these do not come cheap). If you are going it alone, then start out by offering your lecture free to a few business colleges. This will pay in the long run because you will quickly learn if your 'talk' is grabbing the audience, where there are dull spots, where you need to trim the content, the sort of questions asked afterwards, etc. These dummy run free lectures are worth their weight in gold if you have never lectured before. Have you had experience in public speaking? Have you had experience in taking and answering questions? If the answer is no to both then I suggest you take your lecture notes along to a voice coach and get some help. You say that you have the gift of the gab, so you may feel that you can wing this part ... but polish shows. Good luck. .
