Please suggest any impressive/smart ideas, I can do at my Dept. Managers retirement function in my office.?
I have a close relation with my Department Manager and he's retiring next month. We'll be doing a small function in office and I really wanna do something impressive in all others. Just looking to get in to limelight and attention of other senior managers ! Please suggest. Thanks.

- The best thing you can do is to stay OUT of the limelight and let yoru manager be IN the limelight at this event. Doing a great event planning job and making sure everything runs smoothly will look much more impressive than trying to steal the show. Not sure what your budget is for this event so it's difficult to come up with ideas. You might consider having his colleagues prepare a funny or interesting story about your manager's history with the company. Digging up some old photos (especially those from years past with funny hair or clothing styles) is also entertaining for everyone - perhaps his spouse or close colleagues could help in this regard. Order his favorite food, of course (or if it's something expensive like sushi, order a special plate just for him.) Think of things that will be important to him in retirement and come up with a party theme (Vegas? fishing? golf? favorite sports team? travel?) Use the theme in decor, posters, etc. ("Bob, You're Aces!"; "So Many Countries, So Much Free Time!" Retirement is all about remembering and sharing those reminisces with colleagues and friends. Make it about him, and it will end up reflecting nicely on you as well.
