- Are you already retired? If you are a nurse then you are employed and not a homemaker. You can do an IRA if your employer does not contribute to a 401 k for you.
- You can start an IRA and there are rules about "catch up" amounts--consult an accountant or financial planner. You can probably talk to a financial planner at your credit union who can tell you what you are eligible to contribute now.
- If your a homemaker are you not already staying at home doing nothing how would you retire? How would you quit from staying home? Would you not be doing the same only instead of saying, I am a homemaker, you would say, I am a "retired" homemaker.
- Honestly, I would speak to a financial advisor. They can break down your finances and assets to see how much you have saved or need to save in order to retire comfortably. My question to you, as a housewife, do you have any income? If not, you may need to start looking for other employment to put money away. I say this because social security will probably run out in the future and people are looking elsewhere to save money, such as Roth IRA's mutual funds, stocks etc.. But you need money to invest in this. Go to your bank and talk to an advisor, they can lead you in the right direction. Good luck...
