retirement oz

Can someone help me pick the perfect present?

My mother in law just retired after 36 years of teaching the firsdt grade and was a very dedicated teacher and is a great mother in law only problem is we dont have alot of money to spend on an expensive gift and her surprise retirement party is the end of this month. I would love to giver her something very thoughtful but cant come up with any ideas as yet and thought someone out there would be able to help. She is not yet 60 and loves gardening and traveling and her grandkids. Very into church activities. The reason Im having such a problem is that the sister in law in all her glory is buying her a laptop and there is no way we can compete with that but I need some ideas to get on track for a thoughtful heartfelt gift that will mean something to her down the road. Oh yeah my SIL is also putting an album of pictures and letters from everyone invited to the party together for her also. so thats out too. Hope you can help and Thanks.

  1. a bag of jelly beans might do the trick. if not, purchase her a recordable vhs and a bar of Irish Springs soap.
  2. Try to hunt down some of her students, get a picture of them from the time they were in her class and now, have them write personal messages to her from them. Put those in an album and give the album a title like "36 Years of Memories" or something along those lines. Your SIL won't be able to top that! Good Luck.
  3. get her gardening tools all neatly arranged into a preetry basket with laces and flowers and gloves. its a heart felt gift and am sure she will love the thought
