Any unique baby shower gift ideas?

I have a baby shower to go to on Monday and they pretty much have nothing for this poor kid yet and she's due in a week. I was wondering if anyone knows any unique gift ideas? Also what do any of you parents think is a must have with a new baby?

  1. supplys to make a scrapbook for the baby
  2. i gave my friend a dinner and movie for two voucher. they were not gonna have any time out for awhile, and everyone else bought for the baby. mom and dad need time out too!
  3. Unique gift: One of those onesies from Hot Topic that says like ACDC or KISS Most useful gift/must have: diaper genie
  4. The most unique and thoughtful gift I received was a gift certificate to a local portrait studio for newborn portraits and a engraveable silver frame (with engraving already paid for in advance).
  5. I think the best gift for a baby shower are baskets filled with useful things like bottles, diapers, everyday clothes, and other useful items. You could put it in a large basket with something for mom too like a massager.
  6. Here are a few ideas: Baby Einstein (little vids for babies) Lullaby music Little shoes (Everyone forgets about shoes for a baby!) A plush soft blankey A quilt with like photos of the baby and family on it. Another idea is to get a little care pack nicely wrapped in a bag or basket. Put supplies like baby food, diapers, Vaseline, maybe even a mobile for the crib!
  7. The last baby shower I went to, I brought a medical kit. -the squeezy little suction ball -baby sized bandaids -ipicac syrup (makes you throw up, for later, if they drink poison) -a freezable tiny ice pack in the shape of a mouse (ouch mouse)
  8. if they don't have much for the baby, put together a big basket off stuff. include: newborn size diapers, onesies, sleepers, balnkets, pacifiers, bottles, a toy, a haribrush/nail clipper set, washcloths, and one nice outfit.
  9. I saw a really neat gift at a shower....it was a wreath made out of baby washclothes. It had ribbons and little travel size bottles of soap, lotion, etc tied to it.
  10. One thing I have seem ladies do is a baby wreath. You go to a store like Michael's, get a wire wreath frame and fill it with diapers. Once you are done it is a nice looking wreath and you can add small things like sippy cups, pacifiers, baby bottles, etc to dress it up and add color. It is a decoration but also functional at the same time. This website has a picture of one but they are easy to make. I have seen them made. http://www.newbornbabygift.com/pebbdiwrboy.html
  11. money money money. that way they can buy whatever the baby needs. i got my niece an educational bond thingy. she has it 4 when shes older and she can use it 2 help her go 2 college.
  12. If she has nothing yet - the basics are really important. A diaper bag containing lots of little things like diapers, lotions, diaper cream, baby wipes, bottles, etc. Gifts like this are fun to open because every pocket contains a suprise. I love the towels with the little hood in the corner for wrapping baby in after a bath.
  13. I bought my friend a small laundry basket. And added a bag of diapers, some baby shampoo, lotion, powder, baby wipes, and some socks and a package of recieving blankets. All she needed to bring a baby home, and a basket to put the tiny baby clothes in...
  14. The shower is just as much for the mother as it is for the baby, so I would try and get her a gag gift. A real gift and a gag gift, give her the gag one first so she can laugh then give her something sweet so she can cry. Gag= A huge dildo, I mean huge!!!!! Real= A kick ass pasifier of her fave cartoon character. (^_^)
  15. u can go on simplykidstuff.com or babyshowerstuff.com. they have some really need gifts. like birth certificate holder and 1st tooth.
  16. Buy her an antique crib and golden rattle
  17. get s baby bath tub and fill it with things you would need for a baby like soap, shampoo, nuks, diaper rash meds, nail clippers, and what ever else you can think of. or a humidifier
  18. no parent can have enough diapers and babysitters - if you are available print off your computer 5 slips that each say "one free evening of babysitting" you can make them fancy using borders and fancy fonts on word also pick up a gift card to thier favorite shopping spot - walmart/grocery store - someplace they will be buying diapers, formula & baby food (eventually) then place the gift cards & babysitting coupons in a fancy card!!!
  19. DIAPERS! The baby goes through them like crazy and it is one of the most expensive things. NO...blankets I say that because EVERYONE got me a blanket so my kid has 40 blankets and I was trying to think how to magically turn them into something needed like diapers.
  20. Dont get art projects, parents dont have time at first, and things directly useful to the baby are most important. I would get a nice laundry basket and fill it will goodies. nipples, a few bottles (even if she's breast feeding she can use the bottles) a couple blankets, i'd avoid clothes,i know theyre cute but everyone will buy them. Boppy's are so endlessly useful. spoons, diapers, baby wipes. A nice thermometer, baby grooming kit, infant tylenol. If you want to look ahead, maybe some sippy cups and toddler plates and spoons. teething gel,(check the date, it should last a couple years). If you wanted to get something for mom, try a gift certificate to a local carry out, theres nothing nicer than not having to cook a meal right after the baby comes home. Or some stretch mark cream.
  21. I agree with the scrap book idea and portrait studio. I take my children to get their photos done CONSTANTLY!!! But also because you say they practically have nothing for this child I would maybe get them one thing unique and then go with the basics that meet the child's needs more. Usually if I am going to a baby shower of a friend I buy them diapers usually a size two because everyone thinks of newborn but not what you will need in a month or two. One outfit that is a 3-6 months and one outfit that is 6-9 months. I also usually get one summer and one winter outfit this time of year...the larger one being the winter outfit. Hitting sales I can get all that for $20 or a little more. I will also throw in a small toy or rattle etc. For family I of course will usually spend more and will get the two outfits and diapers. But also will get a pack of receiving blankets. Or a kit with all the little shampoos, lotions, oils etc. A baby massage kit. Blankets. Crib sheets. Etc... All those things are must haves. Plus bottles whether she is nursing or not. Pacifiers. There is so much! Good luck with your shopping
  22. I'm not sure where you live, but I live in Wisconsin wher it gets COLD and the one life-saving gift I received was a car seat cover. It slips right over the car seat/carrier and it has wool lining on the inside so the baby stays warm without having to take the time to bundle them up in a heavy snowsuit. Their face is the only thing that shows. You can get them Walmart, K-Mart, Babies R'Us or Target. Another great (unique) gift I received was a baby time-capsule. It's a big cannister that you can fill with different things. (I put in the newspaper from the day my son was born, his first picture, outfit he wore home, baby-bracelet, etc. You are supposed to bury it or save it to give to them when they are older. (I'm waiting to give my son's to him for his 16th birthday.) Good luck!
  23. You can never have enough diapers and onesies!!!! Especially for the first couple of months, when nothing fits the baby, except onesies. I got a very unique gift at my baby shower, a little basket to put the baby's dirty clothes filled with diapers and toiletries!
  24. Well, you can always give a gift card but if you are looking for something else than consider things like a music mobile, toy set, a cute outfit of a precious photo album. Be creative :)
  25. If the parents have NOTHING for the baby...it needs diapers, wipes, and clothes instead of something unique!!
  26. All the suggestions are great.. For my shower my friend got me a nice baby bag and stuffed it with washcloths, bibs, pacifiers(which I always said I wouldn't use!! Right) onesies, thermometer, etc. I don't reccomend getting bottles unless you know what kind they are planning on using. But diapers are always a good idea. You go through them very fast. You could also throw in a certificate for a nice restaurant and offer to babysit that night. Have fun with it!
  27. here are a few ideas there not unique but there helpful diapers lotions diaper rash cream baby wipes johnsons bedtime bath it is a life saver when baby fussy bottles baby nail clippers picture albums blankets orajel lulabuy music shoes socks sleepers or make a gift basket with lotion johnsons bedtime bath rash cream diapers and wipes nail clippers bottles and orajel there all a must with a baby
  28. Depending on how much you want to spend here are a couple of my ideas after having had a baby recently and recieving many unique and helpful gifts at her shower. On the low end, I loved the gifts that were totally practical. For example, a basket filled with bath time essentials (shampoo, lotion, wash cloths, towel, rubber ducky, diaper rash cream, brush set, nail clippers etc.) You could probably fill a basket nicely for $20-30 or for a little bit more, buy the infant bath tub to put it all in. Or another idea would be a basket of feeding essentials (bibs, burp cloths, spoons, dishes, sippy cups, bottles, baby cereal etc.) On the high end, one very useful item we recieved was a bouncy seat ($50-$80). Play mats and other baby entertainers were also nice to recieve as gifts, as they weren't always an essential item that we could afford to buy ourselves. Hope this gives you a couple of ideas.
  29. I think a "new mom care package" would be a good gift!! She's going to get tons of stuff for the baby anyway. You could fill it with easy to grab snacks, maybe some restaurant gift certs, or something to pamper the new mommy with!! If she's going to breastfeed, they make nursing nighties with matching nighties for the baby, I had two of them they were so cool.
  30. Diapers! They are the single biggest expense and they keep running out. One bag of disposable diapers in newborn size, size one and size two is the nicest gift even it isn't the cutest. After that, onesies or baby body suits. They help keep the diaper in place so there are fewer leaks. Cute little suits/dresses are nice, but they really are completely impractical for babies who are growing so quickly. Sleepers and every day clothes are more useful.
