unique gift ideas for a baby shower present?

Public Comments

  1. something personillized
  2. Savings Bonds in the babys name only. When he/she is 18, parents cant touch them.
  3. anything but clothes is unique for a baby shower, everyone buys that
  4. gift certificate for full day(s) at a spa (she'll need it)
  5. An encyclopaedia - get the child learning immediately!
  6. A basket of spa-type items for the mom to be to use after the baby is born. She'll need it! Then something small for the baby. I always recommend outfits that are 12 months. Everyone always buys newborn to 3m and you end up having too much too soon and nothing to use a few months down the road.
  7. Whenever I go to a baby shower I usually buy one of those breastfeeding pillows (Circular shape that fits around their waist), no one ever gives them and they're only about 20 bucks. The moms always tell me how it was the most useful gift...
  8. diapers and baby wipes u need lots of them lol
  9. TRY SKYMALL.COM THEY HAVE UNIQUE STUFF.
  10. a diaper cake! it always gets lots of compliments and the mother will use everything involved. for directions to make one, contact me at beaker8580@yahoo.com
  11. a good gift for a baby shower is teddy bears they always make them smile
  12. Start with the registry. Anything on there is what the mom-to-be wants and needs, and she'll be happy with any of that. Most moms are at Target or Babies R Us. Something personalized- but only if you are 100% positive of sex, name (spelling). I've had friends that were dead-set on something and then the baby was born and either name, or sex, changed. Something handmade, like a quilt or blanket is a great gift. No one does handmade anymore. I'm not capable, but I had my sister make a blanket for a baby shower- huge hit. Others would be- offer to pay for the first photo session w/ a photographer and a framed print, if you're an artist- offer to paint the nursery, if you scrapbook- offer to build a scrapbook. Hope that helped!
  13. Everybody always buys for the baby at baby showers but never for the parents-to-be It may sound weird but an offer of a regular day and time for babysitting so mummy can have a nap or a bath in peace A subscription to a mother and baby magazine A book and magazine on baby massage How about a pre-paid voucher for a personalised birth day and date horoscope The best gift I received at my baby shower was the offer of an evening of babysitting every week cos it meant I could have a lovely long bath or go to sleep without having to listen out for the baby. I looked forward to those couple of hours every week, they were such a help and really kept me sane
  14. We loved getting clothes in sets. For example, you can get a pair of pants, a sweater and a pair of shoes all on one hanger. A friend gave us a baby blanket, a little basket (with a teddy bear on it) to hold soothers in, a crib sheet with a matching pillow case and a little teddy bear. All family members gave clothing and a bag of diapers. (Both diapers and clothing can be very expensive for a new family.) Another family member gave us $50 worth of lottery tickets. Good luck :-)
  15. listen, baby showers are not only about the baby and festivities, but it is also for relational bonding. Buying clothes and toys, money and other miscellaneous 'things' is a bit perochial nowadays... I recommend a huge, BIG HUGE doll for a girl.. .. one that is as big as an adult... why? because it makes other gifts look like nothing.. then the parents will remember the GIGANTIC teddy rather than a mere $200.00 gift certificate from JC Penny... .. for baby boys, a huge play pin (maybe a air-blown playground) will be ideal... .. again, it will make yours stand out, even if you only spent $50.00 godspeed
  16. Get a basket and fill it with things for her when she's in the hospital. Get all travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a loofah, a small lotion, some breath mints & sugar free hard candy, deoderant, etc. My best friend did this for me and it was great. The best gift by far at my shower. I just stuck it in the car, and there it stayed till I had my son. Hope that helps!
  17. try dipers.
  18. I like to give something for the pregnancy and something for the baby if the shower is early in the pregnancy. For Mom: Boppys are great, so are those pregnancy tummy support harnesses (hard to find, but a life saver during the last 2-3 months), or a body pillow. So is a good pregnancy book, like What to Expect When You're Expecting. For baby I try to give a "basket", and I personalize it. I put it in a plastic storage container with a lid - which mom will find uses for. Then I fill it with baby stuff - A crib sheet with elastic all the way around, white onesies (that can be bleached - if you can find them - the ones that button up the front, so mom doesn't have to pull a poopie onesie off over jr's head), those packages of plastic diaper-disposal bags on a roll that go into your purse/diaper bag, Palmer's Bottom Butter (which works better that Desitin or Balmex and smells nice - you can find it in maternity stores), lanolin creme and nursing pads, that sort of thing. Any of those little life-savers that every mom found along the way, but first-timers might not know about. Then something cute that they don't really need, like bibs that say something cute, or yet another pair of booties, or an outfit. Best baby-shower suprise ever: a naughty double-booby shaped cake like men use for bachlor parties, with "Got Milk?" written across the top.
  19. I love the "diaper wreath" it is useful because the mom can use everything on the wreath and it's personal or generic and very unique. To make the wreath just go to local craft store and buy a wreath circle and some ribbon. Then go get a package of diapers, and on mine I put binkies, rattles, toys, anything fairly small that you can tie to the wreath, then open the diapers one at a time tie the diapers around the wreath with the ribbon and tie your toys and extras on. if you want more help with this e-mail me. KrysDaleMoma@yahoo.com Hope this helps.
  20. Something for the mother and father. When I gave birth to my daughter the best gift I received was after I had been home for two days someone came over with a huge roast with gravy, potatoes, carrots, hot rolls, and pie. She brought over paper plates, plastic utensils. She left the leftovers and cleaned up the mess before she left. She also took care of the baby while I ate.
  21. I usually get an ear thermometer. But I once saw something at a shower that was really cool. They folded and rolled up receiving blankets and set them on top of each other to look like a tiered cake. Baby necessities were tucked and pinned to the "cake". I was really cute and original!
