creative ideas for self introductory speech!!!?
I could really use some great help from all you wonderful yahoo answers people! I am working on my self introductory speech for public speaking. My teacher loved my speech last time because it was really creative. He even pulled me aside and told me he expected me to top it!!! While I'm normally a creative person, I'm having trouble. So here's the thing. I want to use a theme I guess in my speech. He told us about a kid who use candy bars and weaved candy bar names into his speech. Ideas around that type would be great or any other ideas for a REALLY creative speech would be much appreciated! 10 points for the best answer! Thanks to all those who participate!!!

- Hmmmm, how about taking your name and research the historical background of it. ie, some names have greek or other orgins, also look at your family tree, where are you from Italy, Irish, Africa, what ever, then weave your own likes and dislikes with your introduction. Your could even include your sign, Libra, Leo etc and use your horoscope for that day as part of your speech. good luck
- Introduce yourself as though you were someone else - you could be your dog, your garbageman, your postman. Then in your speech reveal tidbits about yourself that person would know. For example: I'm Bob's garbageman. Let me tell you a bit about Bob. I know he's a conscientious person because he recycles everything. I know he's cheap because he doesn't tip well at Christmas!
- If your teacher is not averse to it, I would use some props to (1) hold people's attention; (2) make your presentation more memorable; and (3) show you have a sense of humor. For instance, if you are a writer, you could bring out a colorfully painted 3-foot long pencil (it could be made of cardboard, but 3-D would be better if you could do it). If you love to cook, get one of those funny hats that look like you have a spatula going through your head. If you enjoy sailing, bring an oar. You only need one really good prop, but if you wanted to use more than one, that could be fun. Also, I think people like when you go below the surface stuff like age - job - hobbies. I think they might be interested to know about your intellectual interests (literature? politics?), your spiritual interests or questions (christianity? confucianism?), your physical interests (sports? exercise?) -- but you have to be sincere and authentic and not just talk about these things as though they aren't important. Only talk about what *is* really important to you. Give details! If you never miss the world series, that would be cool to know! One last tip -- I would think of at least one humorous or very humanizing anecdote to share about yourself. It could be a most embarassing moment, how you met your spouse (if you have one), your biggest challenge in life, or your greatest dream for the future. Best wishes to you! I know your speech will be *fabulous*!
