Retiring @ 40?!?!?!?
My parents are 40 and they're thinking about retiring this year. I looked at my dad's papers and there were a lot of big numbers (lots of money) but I just think they're a little too young to retire. There are 4 kids in the family but my brother is going to college this year, my sister is going to college next year, and I won't go for another 5 years and my little sister is only 3 so she has some years to come. Does anyone agree with me that they're too young or why are they the right age to retire? What age do you think they should retire? (PS- Dad= Railroad Construction person Mom= Works in a Factory (buys the merchandise) === There not luxury jobs but they pay a lot!!! Also, my mom is having problems w/ her job because they're saying she needs to work for a few more years although she's been w/ the company for 20 years!

- Maybe they have invested in stocks 20 years ago and the stocks are doing excellent?
- Of course it's okay for them to retire at any age! If they're able to retire and they're only 40 years old, then they are very lucky and very smart. Most people just dream about retiring at such a young age. BTW - they don't have to pay for the colleges - if they do you all should consider it a blessing and a privilege (it's not a right or a given that your parents will pay for college). The majority of people who go to college have to pay for it themselves by either working their way through (you learn a lot from that experience) or by getting education loans and then working to pay them off. Wish them luck and congratulations on their early retirement!
- Trust your parents. I am sure they know what they are doing.
- If they can retire @ 40 then more power to them! That means they'll be able to do things with their kids that other parents can't because they are too busy working. They'll have a chance to go places and do things while they are still young enough to enjoy it.
- You should hear their views more often. But its really quite wierd o retire at that age
