"Retiring" from asking on Answers?

I think I'm going to retire from asking questions here. They don't seem to make a difference and seeing no difference, only racism, ignorance, and hatred are not worth the time or effort. It seems you people enjoy the feeling of hating even when evidence is put in front of you that you are wrong. People here want to believe what the TV tells them and not what facts say. It's a sad state. I have better things to put my energy into rather than wasting it on ignorant hateful people. Is anyone else retiring?

While I see a great number of ignorant people here who time after time revealed themselves to be obnoxious, close minded, and ignorant, I return again and again in hopes that my words and wisdom will get through to someone. While a handful of these people don't appreciate the answers you give them, there are many, many more who do appreciate the advice they're given. "Without the sour, the sweet wouldn't taste so sweet."
I have thought about it. I mean it's hard to convince delusional people they are wrong simply through a couple of words. I have more luck when I show people things in a scientific lab. Telling them evolution is real doesn't do much. But showing them works well.

I retired last fall and find myself once again taking a break. Some of the venom spewed on this forum is frightening.

Well that is of course your choice. However you are generalizing and placing all of us into one category. In order to get by in live, you have to learn to overlook those who are rude, ignorant, and racist. State what you think, feel, know, or have read and then leave it be, post at the bottom, that this is where you got your facts, or that is it just your opinon.

Of course not. If you came here to convert people to your way of thinking it might be better if you do retire. You will continue to be frustrated and disappointed. What I hope that you will understand is that facts in religion are a very difficult thing. What you consider to be facts, others do not. We have different scripture or in the case of atheists different sources for finding truth. We may be willing to listen respectfully, but only if we find that we also are respected. You are correct of course that many are here only to insult and try to hurt of mock others. That is unfortunate. But sometimes people have been hurt and they know no other way. Pastor John
Nope, and I hope i'll never retire - I plan to be here for as long as Answers is! Some people, yes, are ignorant or rude or cruel, but the fact of the matter is, they are just as valid as me or you - they have every right to be a part of answers, and they function in society well. I consider that it would be ignorant of ME to try to turn away from such people and such viewpoints as if they didn't exist - I try to learn something from them, even if it's just a topic of psychology or sociology, rather than anything to do with the subject matter of the question or answer. I have also learnt a LOT on here - you can skim through anything that seems offensive to you and just learn the stuff that interests you, reading topics which you enjoy learning about and finding out all manner of new things. Why would I give that up just because i'm scared of or offended by the opinions of a few people?
Please don't take some of these people's "answers" personal or even reflective of the people on here. There are groups of people on here who do nothing but mock and taunt other people and their beliefs. These people aren't here to really ask or answer questions. They merely want to put others down ,and in so doing supposedly make themselves look more intelligent. They will hopefully,someday grow up and learn to treat others with respect.
I don't see it as who is 'right' & who is 'wrong.' We are here to share our thoughts & feelings, discuss, consider, learn & evolve. That's all you can do. Yes, there may be some who are here for other reasons, but as long as you are doing your bit, spreading love & kindness, putting your point of view forward... even if its completely the opposite to what the next person thinks...then to me, that's what this section is all about. Don't let a small minority of negative people drive you away. If we all left because it's not all roses, there wouldn't be any good people left. Stay & do what you can. Ignore the negative. You obviously haven't read all my post or you wouldn't feel like that and that's a crying shame. I never responded or read your posts until now and I'm sad that I did not answer you sooner. Have a great life outside of Yahoo Answers for this is like a "matrix world" that you get addicted to and the "real world" can get neglected so fast. I feel very sad you feel this way. I have had the same feeling from time to time however I try to help with the Homework section and have gotten some great feed back. I find anything to do with religion or politics gets me in hot water, and I have to agree with you sadly enough, the filth and sarcasm is unbelievable. There is a lot of flippant remarks, but I know deep in my soul if I reach at least one person with practical advice, it does make a difference. The world has become very liberal in its thinking and I am from old school. My adult children still refer to people as Mr. or Mrs. which I am thankful for. Maybe take a week off and come back into the areas where you can really make a difference. We are all trying!
Some times we should not throw our pearls before the swines...if it is hurting us or deleting our energy or creating negative energy within us. I am sure you did your best to make people aware. I don't envy the situation you are in...too many people afraid of your religion. I wish you peace and happiness and continued faith in all that you believe.
I understand your feeling, because there is so much hatred and ignorance that people display on here, but I disagree that you haven't made a difference. I've always maintained that your grace, wisdom, and clarity have been necessary additions to an otherwise hostile climate. You are living proof that the ignorant stereotypes that hateful people toss up to the world are false. Remember the old story about the man who cried out against the sins of his city, and was daily ignored: A visitor to the city asked him why he continued to cry out, when he was roundly ignored. The man answered, "At first I cried out in hopes that I would change them. Now I cry out to keep them from changing me." If you stop crying out against their stereotypes, there will be no one to defend against their attacks. Proud Muslimah, you are a wonderful addition here, and if you go you will be greatly missed. Please take some time, take a break, if need be, and if you feel it in your heart, return to us. You have many friends here.

By leaving the only thing you are doing is giving up. And I know we as Muslims have much mores strength to deal with such people. Our trials are nothing to what the Prophets had t go through just keep that in mind. Also, why would you want to satisfy the whims of the ignorant? This is exactly what they would have wanted. If you really didn't make a difference.. Do you think those ignorant people would even respond to you, or do stupid things like clone you and such. You make a difference and they know you do, that's why they become so angry and find ways to get rid of you. Just stay sis.. Don't let a bump in the road of life, make you turn heels and go to a different path. Love to you sis.

I hope i am not late in giving my answer and although the time may seem hypocritical but I have been the biggest fan of your courage and love in Islam. You have been a great inspiration but i almost forgot you are human being that deserves Love and respect and i apoligize that i always kept those respectful feelings in my heart and never shared with you but now i surely will. Yes, I retired before I even started. Just seeing the people who were here. And the answers under them, was just disturbing to me. I don't have time for the ignorance and biggotry that is so plain that it can not be ignored. But don't give up. Sometimes we are making a difference and can not even tell it. Sameerah

If the difference you're talking about is being able to let us know your point of view about your religion, I think you did great all this time. It's good to learn the point of view of a person inside your religion. But, if the difference you want to make is convincing others on converting into your religion, your main enemies are not us, it's your own people: 1. It's easier to catch flies with honey than with a rifle. 2. Actions speak louder than words. Unless you all learn those two lessons, there will be no words that will ever change our point of view about your religion. I use to read the newspapers from other countries, as long as those news are in English, Portuguese, Spanish and/or French, believe me, my opinion and those of many of us do not depend only on the TV. Many around the world say exactly the same thing about the ways of your religion. Again, if your goal has been to let all of us know about your point of view, I'm sad to see you go, you should stay. But, if by any reason whatsoever, you were trying to change our minds, it wont happen, unless we see a sincere change in all of you. Take care.

Pangal is a sweetheart. She has been here for a long time. This is like my 11th account and I understand fully your heart. Not your emotions attached with it, but the heart intended as if things are at times pointless. If you have the will to stay away from Y!A and place your efforts where it can be appreciated, May Allah guide you in all your steps and make them fruitfull. I myself retire, come back, retire, come back, retire again, and come back again to a disgusting cycle. It gets very aggravating after a while. But I can really blame no one but myself for not leaving and staying away. I even just closed my 360 account. It will stay up, just not open. I knew it was going to happen and the name was already chosen for my nick name. I will be back trying to spread smiles later. Then again take my little vacate. The only reason I am not closing completely is because I made an oath with Fathima that we are not going close pages when stressed. But will leave them open and just leave for while. I was glad to be back, as I got to say Salaams to my beautiful Mommie:) But now I am to be gone again for a while. I know the feeling. When I see a rebel flag or a racial epithet I scream. I also tire of our own mini "Christian" broadcasting ( as in; they don't receive) network on here. Hate-filled people attack anything that threatens ignorance. Anger is a drug that allows one to always be right, stay energized and block out feeling like doubt or curiosity about how others feel. We don't know each other. I think I answered some of your questions long ago (can't remember if it was as Darth Cheney, but probably not). Whether it was you I answered or somebody else, I was less than pleasant. I used to be less than pleasant to Christians too. It's been my exposure to some of the nice people here that has mellowed me out. Maybe you think you don't make a difference, but if it makes somebody a little bit more tolerant with respect to another's beliefs, isn't that difference enough? One doesn't have to make a big impact. A little impact will do. The ball starts rolling from there.

I am sorry to hear you are leaving us as I see you take very seriously your beliefs as I do mine. I hate racism also and I was really shocked when I first came here but it takes a lot to put me down. I have made friends on this site and that's what keeps me going. I don't plan on retiring anytime soon.

You will come back. A few months ago I retired from YA, for an entire month, because I end a little frustrated. Curiosity bring me back. I love and hate this place is like the real world.
what you do is you break up the extreme monotony of... Why does islam want to kill us all........ Why is islam the most violent religion on earth........... It gets very old very very quickly Bush needs an enemy since he decided that Osama Bin Ladin wasnt so bad after all.
