What future services will retiring baby boomers need most?

Will the needs vary from state to state?

  1. No. They'll need adequate health care coverage, and a social security net.
  2. Quality insurance. Quality healthcare. Total and complete dignity and care. Nursing homes today are absolutely awful and I hope I don't end up in one.
  3. The quick and easy answer here would be "health care services" and that is why I'm going to skip this possibility in my answer. Instead, I would suggest that education will continue to be an important facet during the baby-boomer retirement years. This generation will be urged to continue working longer than those of the previous generations that immediately preceded them in an effort to deal with a diminishing labor force. Given that, for many of these seniors, this will require a change in skill set, this group will need retraining on new skills and technologies. Teachers that are especially training in educating and facilitating adult development will be in demand.
  4. The baby boomer generation reaching retirement will drastically change the overall look of the US. As they have with every station in life they have reached. (ie... Education, Housing, Childcare, Employment) So... if you look at what is required NOW by seniors... believe that these industries will EXPLODE in the next 5-10 years as the Baby Boomers reach full retirement. We also have to keep in mind that as we grow older, we are also now living longer... many of these "boomers" are still quite active and are looking for change. Given that the majority of them will be able to collect social securtiy at age 65-68... many may be looking for part-time supplimental income, travel, housing, health and wellness, recreational activities. As a society we should be prepared for the change that will occur when the over 60 become the majority population. Many believe that this generation will bankrupt social security and put a tremendous strain on our health care system. Personally, I am working to finance my own retirement. I wouldn't want to get caught unprepared as so many of todays baby boomers are. (many have counted on large pensions from companies they have worked for for years...many such companies are not able to afford such pensions.) I love reading on this subject and there are some wonderful ideas and philosophies out there... contact me through my 360 page if you would like more info or to discuss this further.
  5. pop tops on the cans of dog food that some of them will be eating because they can't afford the 6 different prescriptions the idiot doctors are prescribing them. each drug creates so many side effects that they keep needing more drugs to stay alive. and the current president has put into place a crap prescription drug plan for them.
  6. Healthcare (including prescription services and nursing care), insurance services, financial sevices and leisure and entertainment.
