How to handle these baby boomers?
When the generation of baby boomers retire, we're (my generation) are going to fill the gap, and we need to think of a way to take care of all these old people, more elderly than there ever was in human history. Give us some sort of investment now, so these people can benifit from it later. Not sure how social security will hold up though. What are your thoughts?

- Same, give us back all the Social Security we've paid in over the years (even without interest) and let us invest it ourselves.
- If the US Treasury just pays back what Congress has borrowed over the last 50 years from the Social Security Trust, you would have nothing to worry about. And it would be nice if the Government stopped borrowing.
- I am a baby boomer and I have been working since I was 15 years old... wish I could say the same about your generation! Why do you think we are depending on your generation to "support" us... We have been saving money for years and years. The way you all kill each other on the streets there won't be enough of you left to support us! So put that in your pipe and smoke it sonny. LOL
- Why on earth do you make it sound like the boomers are a bunch of incompetant fools...youth has far more problems now than we had as boomers...let me explain something to you..we came out of a leave it to beaver generation...straight into a total kaotic generation of free love and all the things that all the generations had been taught up to that point was thrown out with the dishwater....boomers are alot tougher than anyone gives them the credit for...and the majority of boomers know what is coming up and are ready for it...so calm down...you wont be having the problem you think you will...if the youth would learn from the elderly and treat them with the respect they deserve...there would be alot less problems in the world today...I know I am going to be living in the mountains and taking good care of myself...and I have been paying my social security since I was 14 so I want it when I get old enough and if the government has screwed up so much by then..I will take it out in trade....Learn the wisdom of the elders...and you will know what to do....
- I'm a baby boomer and my husband is retired and we are living the life we wanted when we were first married. We are healthy and we exercise frequently. My husband walks daily and plays golf twice a week. I go to the gym and walk also. I think everyone should be saving at least a quarter of their pay towards retirement. I found it very difficult when our children were teenagers but we managed to put extra away in our superannuation and now we are reaping the rewards. In Australia contribution to superannuation schemes are now compulsory. When my husband was working it wasn't so we are better off financally than some other baby boomers..
- The same thing that happened to the schools in America will happen to social security. The schools were all in debt from the ammount of expansion, but then as enrollment declined, they gained more money.
- As a Gen Xer, our whole generation has been influenced by the society created by boomers. From free love to bra burning, mom's going to work, TV shows like Maude and Mash, to the proliferation of drug abuse. Anyone in my generation paying attention must have realized by now that while the boomer generation has more disposable income than any other generation, they are also very concerned with spending it on living a fine life, entertainment and play (rightly so). So, let our capitalistic economy drive! There is a huge market waiting to cater to these individuals, from tour busses to independent living facilities, to recreational activities. Subsequent generations might be smaller, and maybe different goals, but everyone can realize a gain by either providing a quality service to people waiting for buy!
