  1. I am a part of the boomer generation . i don't intend to retire just yet. that said my guess there will be more job openings than there has been in a long while. lets see if the next generation can fill our shoes.
  2. there likely won't be a drastic change starting next year as studies show that more and more people are continuing to work beyond 65. this is due to increased medical bills and health costs as well as the increase in the average lifespan. 50 yrs ago, we weren't expected to live much beyond 70, so the retired person only had to finance a living for 5 yrs after working. today, more and more people are living well into the 80s and 90s, creating a longer time that one would have to finance a living. this is difficult to maintain for 15 to 20 yrs without some type of income. any changes that happen will likely occur gradually rather than a sudden flux of retiring citizens. also, i'm a sociology student conducting an anonymous study on sex and relationships at http://geocities.com/sbiv37
  3. Who says they'll retire? A lot of boomers can't afford to.
  4. Baby boomers are the people born between 1946 and 1964. Therefore, many are not going to be retiring for some time. I doubt that the few who have retired, and will retire within the next year or two will have no impact upon our society. By the way, not everyone retires when they hit 65--many are working much beyond retirement age.
  5. Baby Boomers have different age criteria. I am not sure what years you are referring to, but..... Well baby boomers have a lot of pride. Those wealthy enough to retire have become pretty self centerred individuals by and large, looking for the good life and with fat pensions to support it. So I would say the demand for older social clubs and memberships will rise and some of them will worry about eternal damnation if they don't have anything better to do, so they might go to church, and some of them will play golf or buy a boat and go fishing or sailing. So they will probably part with a little money for a while and then they will just honker down and wait for death. Perhaps this will leave it open for younger people to make some necessary changes in society to make those pension checks less valuable?
  6. Sometimes the younger generation need a reality check. When this young person was being very disrespectful to her elders by saying. "Grandma your generation doesn't know anything about computers, Ipods and cell phones. You said that when you was a little girl your dad got a TV and some wouldn't watch it because they were afraid of it. We are the most educated generation of children." Then I had to ask what did your generation invent? What have you done to change the world? You see the computer was made by a man in his garage of my generation. That is why we didn't have them because my generation invented them. Bill Gates is not in high school. He is my age. Neither is the men who invented the ipod or the cell phone. We didn't have them growing up because this generation is the one who made them and this world possible for you. This generation isn't done yet, during the 60's and 70's is some of men's and women's most productive years. They all don't retire at 62. From the stealth bomber to the internet to the rocket that went to the moon. Some of or most of the men who worked on that rocket were in there 60's or 70's. Can't remember now but it was several pages of stuff that the generation who became adults during the 1960's invented. During the 1960's when we became teenagers we were told anything is possible. Henery Ford had a working automobile and the wright brothers had a plane. They said, "If they can do that we can do anything." Feeling the sky is the limit. And with Star trek we started to think that even the sky wasn't the limit anymore. We even found out if enough people protested the war they would bring the soldiers home. So we protested and they got out of Viet nam. The kids today are use to everything being done for them, the men in charge are always right and as obedient little sheep we follow. We made things happen and questioned everything. today they question nothing. World leaders use the people like robots. So you think this generation who became adults during the 1960"s is going to go quietly into the sunset? You better think again. Now with the children gone we have time to persue the things that really matter. Actually, we are just getting started.
  7. The first baby boomers (not me) won't be 65 until 2011. And most of us have 66/67 retirement ages to meet. I'm not retiring until 70. Thats a long time away!
  8. The person who invented the computer, "Ruth" was not of your generation. Alan Turing was born in 1912 so unless you're 90 then he was probably of a generation before. The people that invented the Ipod might have been of your era, but that's old news. Imagine what the children of today will invent, and will be implemented long after you're gone!
