If a Baby Boomer retires today on Social Security?

How are they going to buy Health Insurance for 3000.00 a month living on a 1,000 a month Social Security income?

  1. Not sure where you're getting your figures. The most I've ever paid a month for health insurance was $450, and that covered myself, my wife, and our daughter. I was working as an independent contractor at the time, so it was all out of pocket with no portion paid by my employer. Check the numbers for private plans for yourself, none run more than $500 dollars a month or so. Not to say that isn't high, but your numbers are just unrealistic.
  2. Social Security was never meant to be someones sole source of income! It is a "support income" to be mixed with ones own investments, savings, retirement pension, whatever!
  3. Social security was never meant to be a sole retirement income, you better get a 401K or Roth IRA started, or your going to be a walmart door greeter when your 80.
  4. After 65 the gov picks up most .SS was designed to help not set you up for life I think your American so you can do that your self
  5. thats the issue.. there are so many older people that SS isn't working the way it was intended to work.
  6. I guess they won't be able to...unless they made some wise investments in their younger days. In any event...it's certainly not MY problem! hahaha!
  7. At 65 everyone gets Medicare as their primary health insurance.
  8. Then they're foolish if they never made any plans above and beyond that.
