Baby Boomers in a Gen Y world?

I have about 10 years left in the work world before retiring. I don't inspire to become a VP or CEO.. just want to do my time. With Gen Y taking over the new work world what are the secrets of getting along and not get letting go...?

  1. Well for one, baby boomers are very hard workers, and made do with what they got when they were young, I feel that generation y is sorta lazy, and take things for granted w/ their technology driven lifestyle. They should not have an excuse to not be successful, so if you can challenge the younger generation to you expect more from them (but in a professional manner). The secret of getting along is, accepting the fact that they are just kids and they can care less about baby boomers, or even generation x struggling cuz when they get old they will understand but right now they are lazy and sorta ignorant but again, they are just kids. Baby boomers are hard workers but they can a lil pushy and they expect everyone to be on the same pace as them. For example my dad would say something like "when I was ur age, i had a house, my own business, made my first million only making $3/ hr......" anyway you get my point. Dont look down at generation x or generation y cuz they are just kids and eventually will have to learn themselves. In the work place, definitely raise the bar when it comes to customer satisfaction, QUALITY results rather timed sensitive results. Younger generation skimp on quality for quantity. On a personal note, One thing you shouldnt let go is probably your retirement money or your dignity, cuz gen x or y will not take care of you when u retire, generation x and y are sorta self centered and dont have time for anything (even though they have all the technology to work w/ giving them a great advantage for convienience). Saving aggresively for your retirement will be the best thing to do while dedicating your loyalty to the company youre with. Younger folks are usually looking for growth and opportunity, so they dont always have company loyalty. Thats one thing baby boomers have that is their dedication to whatever they do which makes them stand out from the rest of the generations.
