- yes, and why exactly are you looking for a fellow retiree?
- Just make sure you've got money saved....The Philippines are cheaper to live than advanced Western countries. Have a backup plan, just in case.... My fiancee is Filipino so I may be doing that when I retire.....But that is still a long way away.
- I took early retirement and moved here in January 2005.It was the best move I ever made.Join the yahoo group..Cebu city today..lots of guys there will be happy to answer your questions.
- I am 46 and moved here on my military retirement in October of 2005. It has been a series of ups and downs, but you should have no problems with the money situation. if you have at least $1,000 to spare per month you can live quite comfortably (at todays rates), especially if the house is paid for. I own a small cyber cafe here and really don't even use my retirement for anything other than my own pleasure. There is an extensive american/european community in and aroud Cebu so you should have no problems in that aspect, and you can get just about everything you can in the states here. Try to learn tagalog (www.rosettastone.com has a great program) and at least a little Visayan before coming and it will help you a whole lot. I actually live just outside Manila in Meycauayan where there are very few American/ European residents (I've found 2 so far, one retired american that's cool and one Russian A-hole) so my situation is a little different. Just remember when you get here you are a guest and treat the people here with respect and you wil have no problems. Also remember you are working on their time scale so don't expect to get anything accomplished fast, be patient, and give your self plenty of time to do things. The place you are going is very nice and you will really enjoy yourself. Don't worry about the financial aspect of the move, because that really won't be a problem, but I would plan on setting up some kind of small business here and just let someone else work it for you. It will give you a sense of purpose and keep you from getting too bored. If you need any help or advice you can email me at deezone13@yahoo.com and there are many online expat and phil-am sites that can give you info also.
- I do. I plan to retire in Cebu as well, but for sure I'd stay at the city proper because I am definitely a city girl at heart. :)
