retirement oz

Is Thailand a practical place to retire. How many UK personel live there and which areas. Facilities, TV etc?

  1. Look on the internet...for Phuket, Thailand...Many nice condominiums available..many Britts live there.
  2. There are thousands of Farang (western/Caucasian) retirees in Thailand, and the Brits do seem to be the most numerous. Pattaya and Phuket seem to be popular, both seaside resorts. Bangkok is fun, but I presume a tad too stressful for retirement. Facilities in all major cities are great, you can get all the western conveniences for much less money (cable TV, internet etc.). Since labor is cheap, you can probably afford a part-time maid, and should you ever need a nurse, it'd be several times cheaper than in the west. If you are single, you need about $1.000 (US) per month for the decent life, although you could certainly manage on $600. This, of course, doesn't include extraordinary medical costs or entertainment. From what I've seen, top notch medical facilities exist in Thailand, and wait times are extremely low.
