Is it possible to transfer years of active duty in the military to a retirement plan for state or city jobs?

  1. YES, I retired from town government in 2001. The town added four years to my pension from my time in the Marines. They only gave me four years although I spent eight in the Marines.
  2. in civil service you can buy back your military time and get it credited toward your retirement
  3. Transfer, no. You can, however, buy back all military time for state or city jobs. It is the law. Normally, it doesn't cost all that much, either. Same for federal jobs, too. If you have 4 years of military, that can really help your retirement.
  4. yes.
