Birthday Party "Donut" Cake ideas...?

Little girls bday, she wants donuts instead of a cake??? Any ideas on what we can do? It's going to be an ice cream and swimming party for kids 5 to 12yrs old. Thank you

  1. If you have a Krispie Cream by you I believe they make donut towers, sort of like a wedding cake made of donuts. You could probably easily create your own
  2. You can have unglazed donuts, and get icing and sprinkles and other candies so the kids can decorate their own during cake time. or get donuts and donut holes and tootpicks. Let the kids make donut creatures with arms/legs/eyes Donuts instead of cake sounds awesome! i want to do that for my next birthday and i'm 23!
  3. The donut cake tower isn't a bad idea. For my wedding my mother tiered angel food cakes and decorated them with strawberries and cut flowers. You could tier glazed donuts and decorate with sprinkles and such. You could even put out a spread of icings and/or other toppings for them to create their own. We did something similar for my daughter's 5th birthday only using cupcakes. They loved it!! Good luck!
  4. My sister didn't want a regular cake either for her birthday, she's turning 13. So, my mom had the great idea to get a really big dessert tray tier thing to display these beautiful cupcakes my mom is ordering. Try something like that but with donuts. You can check places like Michaels or a Linens and Things. Have fun!
  5. We did a cake with the little white confectioner's donuts. Using vanilla icing to set, build a large base and get each layer progressively smaller. Added icing candle holders around base with icing flowers. Could decorate the birthday girl's donut or two depending on age with candles and flower on separate plate. Could make each donut look like a candle holder and handle. Use candy stick for candle, Center candy in donut; add a different type of candy or cookie for handle. Use large cupcake paper or small dessert paper plate for holder. I vote for the paper plate and just have a tray or several to take them out on. Do dipped donut hole if desired; use pretzel sticks, spear donut hole, dip hole in melted chocolate and then sprinkles or colored sugar. Chill on waxed paper, arrange on tray.
