How can I save money?

I'm young and don't have a job, but even when I do I still can't seem to save money for the life of me, or anyone else for that matter. I'd get money from work (when I have a job), close friends, girlfriend, family, etc... But I always manage to spend it. I have 2 bank accounts that are always empty or approaching empty. I'm also a Libra that likes to host/entertain so expect that I spend it on anyone who seems nice or I donate it to organizations or give it to bums. HELP!!!!!

  1. the simplest strategy is just to save 10% of your income and put it into a savings account. make a habit doing this every week. remember you can not take anything from this account. things will come up, when you need the money, but treat this account as untouchable. when you have enough money saved, then you can look into what will be the best investment vehicle. the habit of saving is the most important thing right now.
  2. spend less money.
  3. Very simple there are four things you can do 1) and most important - change your thinking - you must think of saving as a good thing 2) set up with an employer a savings plan - like an automatic deduction into a mutual fund where you do not see the money - it does not have to be much - but START and KEEP it going 3) I did this - I was wanting a new car and figured my car payment would be about $500 a month so a year before I wanted the car I had the credit union take from my ordinary bank account $500 a month - when the time came I had 5 thous there as a downpayment along with my old car - guess what - my new car payment for a short time is $522 - and I will CONTINUE to pay myself when the car is paid for 4) the first rule for saving is PAY YOURSELF FIRST (and make sure it is put into something you cannot write a check on) Best of luck Gerbear
  4. Buy what you need not what you want.
  5. You have no common sense or fiscal disciple. That, little Libra, is your problem. If you don't spend money, you get to keep it.
  6. Saving is a mind game. We all know we must spend less than we make, even very stupid people know that. It's not a mathematical issue; it's a state of mind. Watch your thoughts and your inner talk; right now, you are probably just thinking about what you need to buy, where you should go, etc. Think, talk and see yourself saving money. Saving is not near as fun as spending or making, but we must do it. The alternative - not saving - usually makes you broke. Have fun!
