Travelling overseas! Need help about bags?

I'm going from Chicago to NYC on Saturday, then to Dubai on Tuesday. I have 2 big bags, which I'm sure will be under the 35 kilo limit for overseas travelling, may be a bit over from chi to nyc but that's okay. However i want to also check my small roller suitcase, will they let me? It'll just have like personal items but I don't want to lug it around and with that silly 3 oz rule, a lot of it would be thrown out anyway if I took it with me around the airport. Advice please? If they let me check it for a fee, how much do you think it'd be? Thx frenza, I've realized I'll just have to stick it in the other luggage too. Oh well, but thanks!

  1. We had the same problem, it would have cost us more to put it in as excess baggage (about $200 Australian) than it would to mail it!!! Take it as hand luggage, or squeeze as much as you can into the other cases, good luck and happy travels!
  2. Check with the airline you are using to verify that "35 kilos" is the free baggage allowance. Most airlines now only allow 50 pounds, or about 22 kilos per bag for international flights. They can also tell you their cost for overweight baggage and for a 3rd bag (not all airlines are the same and you don't say which one you are flying with). A 3rd checked bag is a 3rd checked bag. The airline will charge you for it unless you fall into one of the categories that allows 3 bags (ex. First or Business Class, military traveling on orders, etc.).
  3. You should call up your airline and clarify all the details regarding the weight of your bags and fee they would charge. But, be sure to remember that you put all of your essential items that you will need throughout your journey in hand bags. Good luck!
