teaching overseas what should i bring?

Of course I am bringing clothes and personal items. I will be teaching overseas for about a year. I'm worried about bringing too many reference books. I've only set a few aside... any advice on what else is important / essential?

  1. I think it depends of what you are teaching and were. Some cities have great libraries so you can check the books. Also don't forget that you can find a lot of good information on the Internet, so maybe you should find some resources pages before you go. Also, it's always good to bring a dictionary (specially if the country you are going speaks another language) and there is always that special book that you know with help you a lot (follow your heart on that one). My advice is that you shouldn't bring a lot of things that you can find easily over there.
  2. It truly depends on where you are teaching. I can't think of anything more important than clothes, personal item and a few reference books. That is all i brought. Anything that you find entertaining and you are not sure if it's in the country. Nothing worst than those days when you just want to stay in and having nothing to entertain you. IDK it really depends on where you are going. There are many forums for this. The one I know is Dave's ESL Cafe. They are best for asian countries but they may have people who are teaching in other countries there too. I went to S. Korea so if you are going there I can tell you some things.
