taking computer overseas?

I am going to take my computer overseas, to Europe and Asia. (I am in the US.) My computer does not adapt to 220, so I need an adaptor. I have one of those standard voltage converters with the different plugs for each continent, like you buy at walmart for your hair dryers, etc. Will this work, or do I need to purchase a separate adaptor? What, specifically, do I need to buy? Can you give me a product name? Someone said I needed an adaptor to go from a three-pronged to a two-pronged plug. Why would I need this if i purchased another adaptor? Thanks for your help.

  2. I live in Egypt, I brought all my electrical goods here from UK, I also have a laptop brought from a guy in the US, all work here, the reason you need an adaptor is that here we do not have 3 hole sockets, , we have no earth wire, so you need to go to any electrical outlet and just ask for a universal adaptor. then you can put your 3 pin plug into it and it has a 2 pin outlet. Problem solved, 3 pins into a 2 pin. One thing, just be careful, some of my appliances, ie microwave and washing maching can give a nasty electric shock, I cured this by attatching a length of wire cable to the body of the appliance and attaching the other end to a metal water pipe and earthing it. Of course you can't do this with a computer.
