Ferrets as Overseas Pets?

Is is safe to ship a Ferret overseas? I am moving to the Ukraine, and I want to get one. (they seem easier than dogs) and i want something playful.

  1. Everyone I know who has owned a ferret wishes that they hadn't. Although they are said to use kitty litter, they are unreliable. They poop & pee all over the place. When they're out of the cage you have to watch them every single second. They chew. I think that the only way they're easier than dogs is that you don't have to take them outside to poo. Cats are easier than dogs. They're playful & they use their litter box. Some of my cats think they're dogs.
  2. Traveling internationally with pets can be a hassle. A lot of countries have quarantine requirements etc.. that can cause delays and inconvenience when traveling. The domestic ferret sold in the US is a native of Europe and it would probably be easier to get a ferret once you arrive, rather than take one with you.
  3. You're going to have to check regulations. Many locations will not allow the importation or ownership of animals (especially ferrets) because of the risk of introduction of an exotic species into the area.
