retirement oz

If you had sufficient funds for the rest of your life, would you consider retiring in Thailand permanently ?

What other countries would you consider ?

  1. No. I'd consider the Netherlands, New Zealand or Bali, but would probably stay in the US.
  2. Not Thailand, There is no paradise like here in FLORIDA!
  3. I would retire to Malibu.
  4. No, nothing against Thailand, I like it here in the States. Would like to travel and visit though.
  5. Yes I would, and I already have, been here for years and for now have no plans to ever go back.
  6. I did already.
  7. It's a great place to retire: wonderful nature/weather,great food, still quite cheap, smiling people etc. Came here 7 years ago and I'm still here. Also the south of France would be lovely but very expensive...
  8. Certainly in an instant. The weather is nice, the people are friendly and it is cheap. You can choose between the mountains, the city or the tropical islands and with such a busy airport, it is easy to get anywhere.
  9. YES
  10. My choices are Thailand, New Zealand, Australia and Philippines.
  11. I'd really have to think about it.......for about 2 seconds
  12. I'm half Thai, and I love Thailand . . . but I couldn't see myself retiring there. If I could hand pick a place . . . I would chose Costa Rica for retirement.
  13. Hmmm...how much money are you giving me to play with again? I personally would continue to do what I do now, which is spend 6 months in UK and 6 months abroad. However, I do think Thailand is a great place to retire to and would definitely consider it. Thailand has great weather, low cost of living (compared to UK), lots to do, great food, nice people, and a great quality of life. It has a lot going for it as a retirement destination. I would also consider Malaysia and Philippines. Malaysia has a more enlightened policy with regards visa - you can get a 10 year visa and actually own two freehold properties under the MM2H programme - this is great as you can let one out for rental income and live in the other - giving you a nice boost to your pension. English is also widely spoken to a high standard. Philippines is also somehere I would seriously consider. The Filippinos are lovely people, the diving is awesome and you can rent a very nice place at low cost. English is widely spoken to a high standard and in fact many Filipinos teach English in Thailand. I have several friends who retired to Philippines and they are loving it big-time! Here's what one friend said of the Philippines: "I've been here 18 months and still enjoying it. Mostly, because I'm now 67 and all I want is a simple life, that I can afford. :-) The apartment/condo I live in (3 buildings) has good security, free telephone (for Manila Calls only), cable TV, Internet Service, two gyms, 4 pools, beauty/barber shop two small restaurants, tobacco/alcohol shop, pre-school, dental office, 1/2 indoor basketball court, outside 2 tennis courts, with instructor and ball boys, in-house maintenance, mail boxes, parking, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. :-) Within a short walk there are three large malls and 3 small malls. The hospital I use is only a couple of years old, most of the doctors practiced in the U.S., it has all the latest equipment, and it is also very close. Simplicity, and convenience; just what I want at this stage in my life." Pretty cool. :)
  14. yes , i would stay here
