Any Ideas For A elderly birthday party?

My great Grandma is turning 83 something soon ( But she thinks shes turning 100 ) My family is throwing her a birthday party this weekend and so far all we have is decorations, food and people we wanna invite planned. She lives in a retierment home and she had a stroke so she cant move much. I want it to be a special party but if she cant even stand what could be fun. Plus I need something to do too cause being in a retirement home for three hours isnt very fun. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME GOOD IDEAS...

  1. umm... play bingo - EVERONE loooves that game lol
  2. lots of prune juice and lifetime programs thats what my grandma likes
  3. Well I saw on a Yahoo News Video that at retirement homes, they are letting the elders play Nintendo Wii. A game like Wii bowling is easy to learn and easy for the elders to play and you can enjoy yourself just as much!
  4. BINGO
  5. put together a video of highlights in history during their lifetime. it'll bring back memories of the "good-ol-days" and they'll appreciate the effort you put into it. An outing at the park always seems nice too. Elderly seem to appreciate the simpler things in life at their age - they've already seen and done it all.
  6. beer pong
  7. Prune Juice Jugging CONTEST!!!!! (I suggest renting a few handicap accessible port-a-potties if you don't all ready have them ;) )
  8. the best thing you can do for her is just to be there with her. thats what she wants most. i worked in a nursing home for years and soo many are just dumped there without any family ever coming. shes very lucky to have you .
  9. As long as the people she loves is there, I'm sure she will have a wonderful time. Just go early, make sure she is comfortable, and stay late to show you care about her. That should make her happier then anything!
  10. well...if you live in or near nyc go to the cupcake cafe, they have amazing cakes-
  11. in some retirement homes you can take the people out of there for a while, if not just invite alot of her friends and family im sure she will have fun just visiting
  12. BINGO, card games, easy foods
  13. hire her a male stripper she will like it and she will feel young for a little while
  14. they do love bingo- I saw someone said that, but it is hard to do in a little room. Play music from her youth. I think 3 hours is going to be too much for her. they have people who work at the place that are in charge of activities. give that person a call and ask her what granny likes to do..or if she has any ideas. also, if she is getting therapy from an ot or pt, they should be notified so they don't come to work with her in the middle. it wastes their time.
  15. wow..that is a great age.. If I were you I would probably check with the nursing home if it would be okay to use an overhead projector...then I would take the family photos and make a funny slide show and do the narration. Happy Happy Birthday to your gran....
  16. Bingo and Wii are fun. I volunteer at the retirement home where i live, and they all love that. Also, Karaoke. You can not imagine how many of the elderly like this (as long as it is the older songs that they know!)
  17. How about someone to play the piano and a good old fashioned sing song with some of the golden Oldies from the war like It's a long way to Tipperary The Lambeth Walk that sort of thing.
  18. hate to disappoint you, but other than what you've already done...is it. I work with the elderly , 29 years....and you have all the important stuff that is already special to the person, the friends, family,..etc.........Why not bring her home for the day? you can do that. Get her out of the rest home, ...even if she cant get around too much, ....thats all the more reason to take her out. Make sure some of her old friends, that she hasnt seen in years are there, that will surprise her. i wouldnt worry much, she's going to appreciate pretty much anything you do. Oh and make sure you have HER kind of music from years ago..
  19. Older people tend to like more relaxing parties. So, a few friends and family and some nice food for a special occasion a few cards and lots of happy birthdays and a few board games or something would be perfect. A majority of the elderly tend to not mind if you bring a game (like a gameboy or something) just don't bring it out so soon xD
  20. okay, soft music, board games, games-Honey I Love You, telephone, Mail Call, Hi, Larry, and lots more, but thats all i got, hes a helpful website:
  21. you could play old family movies... have everyone in the family bring and movie (try and find ones that she is in). Also you could put together a picture book or do a poster collage of pictures of her from birth (if you have some) to most recent. If she is 83 something, there should be tons of photos and movies floating around... you just have to know where to dig. You could make it a hawiann theme, and when a guest walks in you could "lay" them. It would neat for the older folks especially. Hawiann theme party stuff is really inexpesive. Uhm you could play guessing games.. like ask everyone a question about the guest of honor and who ever wins gets a prize. Like where was she born.. what was her last job.. stuff like that. YOur great grandmother would get a good laugh out of it. But if you host the party then you would have something to do... keep busy
  22. get a LAPTOP open the charlax http://www.poetrypoem.com/charlax show the young lady granny some of my poetry she will love it and ewe will have fun tewe
