When retiring, does insurance follow???

I understand that you have the option of continuing the insurance but since I am retiring and not quiting or being laid off, will the continuation still fall under cobra?? Because cobra does eventually ends, like 18 months. I'm wondering if I could keep it for as long as I am paying for it no matter what??

  1. No, even in retirement the insurance continuation will fall under COBRA and will end unless your company has some kind of a separate arrangement for you. The company's only requirement, by law, is to offer you continuation under COBRA for the 18 months. There are circumstances where COBRA is extended (death, disability) but that is a separate issue.
