Teaching Overseas is it worth it?

I'm currently a senior in highschool and I am really interested in teaching overseas. I've read tons of blogs about people who done it and it seems like a really good way to get paid. All your traveling expenses are paid and you get to see other countries. You only need a BA in any field and a clean record. I was wondering if this is a good idea to invest into? And if I should major in education to do it or Creative Writing or Film/Cinema Studies, because I really want to write for TV too.

  1. Teaching overseas can mean many different things. Are you talking about working for an agency that teaches English language to adults? Or in a school? And if in a school, one for host country nationals, or one for expat kids? There are agencies that will place a non-teacher straight out of college, but you need to do your research, because there are a lot of rip-offs out there. The best overseas schools would never hire someone who had no experience and no degree. As for the answerer who said that it wasn't a long term career, there is a fairly sizable community of people who spend their lives teaching at American or international schools throughout the world. You need to be a certified teacher and have at least a few years teaching experience before you will be hired, but once you start doing it, it becomes an ideal way to see the world, and the pay is significantly higher than in the states. I take home a third more than I did in the states and my apartment, car and travel is all paid for. it is an amazing lifestyle, and I can't imagine going back to the States.
