Successful Filipinos Overseas?

Do you agree with the general observation that Filipinos are more focused/disciplined and become more successful when they are overseas than at home? What can be done to replicate this behavior in the Philippines? interesting insights. I am an optimist and hope for the Philippines' and the future generations' sake that what some say that it cannot be done is not true.

  1. just work yourself to death and send them all your dollars coz thats all they want is your hard earned money, yes pinoy are successful overseas, but the lazy 1,s back home will never be , coz they just want money money money oh and smb
  2. Overseas, there are enforcers of rules that need to be followed. If one breaks a rule, there is a corresponding fine, discipline and/or jail time. There should be a consistent enforcement of rules back home. Even up to now, there is consistency in the observation of double standard. One is super fast to condemn public officials when seen outside bars or clubs or similar establishments but will not hesitate in bribing a police officer when accosted.
  3. Filipinos are not accustomed to rules being enforced , but when they get to another country , rules are enforced , all clocks are on same time , there are penaltys for being late , and employers dont accept lame excuses for being absent or late . It cannot be replicated in Philippines because so many do not want it replicated , would rather remain in poverty than to accept any disipline
  4. allmy filiopino family members are nurses, doctors, teacher and are quite disciplined.many are because of what life they started out with, in poverty.they had to be obiediant to survive.
  5. Yes, I agree that Filipinos are more successful abroad than they are at home. What can be done? Better treatment of employees, better benefits, better working environment, better wages to support a family.
  6. Yes, agree with that observation. The people as a nation should strive towards punctuality, service, care and concern of the environment. To put is simply: unity and discipline toward a better future.
  7. Yes, I agree with you that percentage-wise, the Filipinos abroad are more successful. But the scale of success is different and measured differently by people. The sad part is that SOME successful overseas Filipinos think they are now more successful than ALL of those they left behind, and think that ALL Pinoys left in the Philippines are wallowing in misery. This gives them false pride, and a haughty attitude whenever they visit.
  8. The challenge of being in a foreign land and showcasing how good they are brings out the best in them. Most Filipinos I know are very proud of their heritage and try to show the best in their cultures. If you can bring this same pride and nationalism back in the Philippines, you would probably see some progress. being too laid-back, happy go lucky or just plain laziness, you guys are the better judge on why this can't be seen in the Philippines. ...that and all of the corrupt public officials.
  9. You may say that but it might not be fair to say it. Because, all if not a great majority of Filipinos who are overseas have a higher educational attainment than the normal Filipino at home, they have a higher sense of "delikadeza" (more refined), they are more likely to have dreams & ambitions, & have a lot more to lose if they aren't focused & disciplined. But if you will compare the Filipinos abroad with the same background/conditions/opportunities as those Filipinos in the Philippines--they would generally be the same. What should be done is to send all Filipinos who are content to be "tambays" (bums) abroad & then to have them work 8-12 hours days, 6-7 days a week, be the family driver & still do the laundry, the cooking, the house cleaning, house repairs, & help the kids with their homework.
