- it used to be Subic, olongapo home of the scenic shitriver today, any base, rules are changed, sailors have to be politically and socially correct now miss the days of sailors and dogs keep off the grass.
- In my opinion the Kanto Plain of Japan is the best overseas duty.... Yokosuka Naval Station and Atsugi Naval Air Station. Okinawa and Misawa Air Base in Japan are also good.... Misawa if you like snow and Okinawa if you like the tropics and don't mind typhoons. Guam is awful. Don't take orders there under any circumstances. If Europe's your thing Rota, Spain is nice and so is Sigonella, Italy. Naples, Italy isn't good.
- It can depend on what you want to do? Do you like warm weather, beaches, warm breeze? Then choose a place like Okinawa, Hawaii, Guam, Singapore, or Australia. If you want to live in a place where you can drive to another country within a short amount of time then there is Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Belguim, Germany, etc... There may be a lot of openings in various places depending on what he does. Some Ratings can go just about anywhere, while others are limited. We loved Hawaii, heard nothing but positive things about Spain, Portugal & Japan.
- I am kind of partial to Yokosuka Japan, myself. It was our first tour as an Officer and I had a BLAST. getting on base housing OCONUS is muchly more difficult than on base and they are EXTREMELY strict with BR allotments.. all children under 10 share a room, period, and same sex under 12 share. If you have school aged children, well, the schools are over crowded and if you have more than 2 your chances of getting CS are smaller. the Fleet also is underway a LOT more compared to Norfolk or San Diego's Fleets.
