How can I save money? I cant seem to control myself.?

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on saving money...I can never save money as i spend it when it gets in my hands...i would eat out a lot...i cant resist..or buy thingsi dont normall needs like videogames and movies... im trying to save money for a car and insurance but i cant...even if i put it in a bank with a savins account....i totally ignore the penalty and take out money regardless.... is there a easier way to save money? and no having to have those "urges" in spending it?

  1. I would check out Dave Ramsey. He has a radio show. Give him a call. I am obviously a fan. www.daveramsey.com
  2. You gotta overcome your will to spend. With me, I just ran out of space for all the crap I buy, so now I have to prioritize what I actually need and it helps to a degree. It's hard though, I think the term is shopaholic.
  3. The truth is, there is no easy way. If it were easy, then everybody would have money saved. I feel your pain. Most people have a hard time saving money. My advice to you would be to test drive the car you want or put up pictures of it around. Put the price underneath the pic. Carry around with you the amount you need to save written down. Don't deprive yourself....just buy less. And if you can remember, when you have the game or video, or whatever in your hand, think, "what if i saved this amount this week instead of spent it?" Go out 1x a month to eat. Buy 1 game. And, you can always sell your games for more money if you aren't playing them anymore. Write down every day the good things about having a car, and the bad side of not having a car. This way, it will always be fresh in your mind. Good luck. Most of america is right there with you as far as saving goes.
  4. You very eloquently state the problem. Knowing you have a problem is half the problem. The next half is dealing with it. I've never had an addiction, so I don't understand them or know how to get over them. Stop spending. If you can't, get professional help. Good luck!
  5. No need for any tips as there are only two ways to go. One is you spend cash and end up with nothing. Pack away cash and have bigtime fun later. That is it.
  6. Make it automatic. Have your employer to take it out of your paycheck before you get it. Have them put it into a savings account like ING DIRECT. This way you never think about it and it will be a little harder to get out. ING DIRECT transfers take two or three days.
