- bring your own fudge? bring your own beer? bring your own food? good luck on your vacation!! - It's gorgeous UP there!! oh, and bring loose change so U can go potty.. last time I was up there it had locked stalls...at the time, I was small enough to crawl under.. and go...
- I LOVE Mackinac Island but it is expensive! If you are looking to cut costs I would think about staying at a hotel off the island. Hotels/motels are much cheaper off the island. If you can get a hotel with a kitchenette that would be good as well because then you can make your own food most of the time and save money not going out to eat every night. I will suggest if you are there to check out the horse stables that offer the "drive your own horse and buggy" rides. My son and I did that and it is something we will NEVER forget. You actually get to drive your own horse and buggy around the island for a couple hours. We had a blast and it wasnt hard. It is a little expensive but well worth it!
- Goggle Mackinac Island...you'll get tons of stuff... Don't plan on saving any money...its expensive. ...............
- It's hard not to spend a lot. If you stay on the island, some B&B are much cheaper than others and time of year does matter. Even though they charge to bring bikes over it's still cheaper than renting them. If you want snacks - chips, pop there's a little party store in the middle of the island near small local's neighborhood. It's a nice bike ride there, stuff is cheaper there. Take a back pack and bring items back to your room.
- there is no camping on the island, but there is on the mainland. Make sure you take the Shepler Ferry and bring your own bike. I suggest you take your food with you in a backpack and save your money to grab a salad at the Grand Hotel. The island isn't cheap, but it is nice.
- It's almost impossible to save money on Mackinac Island. Everything is outrageously expensive. Ride the ferry, rent a hotel room, and take a carriage ride with one other person, and you're already out about 400 bucks. It is somewhat cheaper to stay in the hotels during the offseason. Try going the first week of May or something like that. Otherwise, prepare to spend lots and lots and lots of money. One money saving idea is to stay in a hotel in St. Ignace. The savings in the hotel rates probably makes up for the extra ferry tickets if you want to spend two days on the island. It would save money if you brought along food for at least one meal.
- Don't go and save your money.
