Military retirement?
My dad retired from the military after 24 years, so of course he received retirement. He passed away a couple of years ago, does his retirement go to my step-mother or does it just stop completely? She's a wonderful woman, so I hope she still gets it. Anyone know?

- It depends. If they agree and signed forms to have her get a portion of his retirement in exchange for him getting a smaller retirement, then yes, otherwise, no.
- Nope, Unless he signed up for the Suvivors Benefit Plan, which is an annuity program for survivors of deceased vets, his pension stops with his death.
- It all depends on whether your stepmother was his spouse at the time of his death and he enrolled your step-mother in the Survivor Benefit Plan, paying the premium out of his retired pay. If not, then his pension stopped as of the date of his death. If yes, you should provide documentation of that to the Marine Corps Finance Center which managed his account to find out if your stepmother was the beneficiary. If she is, she should be receiving 55% of his pension every month.
- Ok, you said he passed a couple of years ago? Is she receiving it now? If not then my answer would be no. If so then yes. You may want to check with your local VA office.
