- Eliminate everything but the essentials. No cable, cell phone, internet access, gym memberships. Use our local library for internet access and borrowing movies to keep yourself entertained. Your taxes pay for it, you may as well use it. Take up jogging for a hobby. Learn to cook, you gotta eat anyway. Might as well do it well. Then you can have your friends over for a great meal. Cooking for two or three costs about the same as cooking for one.
- Give some to mother every month
- stop buying junk and sale all your old junk or things you dont want on craigslist!!
- Learn to make a budget. Make a list of the things you have to spend money for. This might be for a car payment, rent, medical bills, credit cards, etc. Whatever is left is fair game to put into your savings account. You don't have to save all of it, but you should save some from each check. Set up a direct deposit for your paycheck if possible, and transfer a portion of it put into the savings account. Promise yourself that you won't get into that account except for emergencies or for purposes that you plan out in advance, like tuition, a down payment on a car, etc. That means you don't use it for frivolous stuff like partying, clothes, etc. DON"T get a debit card for the savings account, DON"T set it up so that you can electronically transfer money from this account to another one - you want to make it difficult to get to this money. Keep some for pocket money, but get into the habit of asking yourself before each purchase - "Do I really NEED this, or am I buying it just on an impulse?" Soon you'll start passing up the stuff you don't truly need. Finally, don't use a credit card except for emergencies, and try to pay it off in full every month. If you can do that, you'll be ahead of about 80% of the people in this country.
- Girl...I am having the same issues BUT I've been doing really well lately! What you have to do is get a notebook or journal...when you get paid write down your total amount and then deduct whatever bills that you need to pay with that paycheck...Remember that money is gone...then what I do is go to the bank and take out enough cash for that week - this is for gas and groceries-necessities only...I do it week by week... This way you are only using cash to pay for things... and you know how much available money is in the bank at all times...and how much cash you have to spend- you need to limit yourself to necessities Do this for a couple months then you will see how much money you are having left over from each check...You can then start saving that money...You will see how much money you actually NEED to survive...and how much you can actually save! If you are trying to pay off bills...everytime you payoff a high bill...reward yourself with something...a pair of jeans...shoes...etc... Or of you're just saving...everytime you hit lets say 1000...reward yourself! You are gonna have to stop splurging, but in the long run it is soooo worth it and you will feel soo good! REMEMBER...give yourself about two months before you officially take that money and out of your posession...you don't want to run out of money! You have to see how much you can realistically save! AND if you get a second job....make sure you save all that money as if you never had it! GOOD LUCK!
- Check out http://www.spendwebmoney.com for the latest online jobs that anyone with a computer can do for extra cash. Also, one of the best ways for me to save money is by using grocery store coupons. A good site to visit is http://www.thecouponmaster.com They deliver high value coupons to you by mail. You can look at your week's grocery savings circular and decide which coupons you need. Then, when you order the coupons they will arrive within a few days. You can use them in conjunction with the sales or alone for big savings. If you save the cash you saved on your grocery purchase by using the coupons, you will have alot saved up in no time. One lady helped put her daughter through college on grocery coupon savings.
- Keep living it up!! Just do this instead. Buy the bargains and save the difference. Example 1: Latte $3.50. Get a tall coffee instead $1.75 and add cream, sugar and vanilla powder. Example 2: Lunch. $9.95 sandwich. $1.50 drink. Get the $7.75 meal and a water with lemon. You get the point. Apply this concept to your lifestyle. These two alone will save lets say $6 x 20 days/month = $120
- Every money you earn set aside 17%. set your priorities straigth. When you go shopping, before you buy something that is on impulse, ask yourself ? do I really need this?, can I live without it? if your answer is yes, then buy it, if not, check for the price and set aside the money that you save. buy things on sale that you know you'll need in the future, but do not buy just because you have a coupon. I'll pray for your gambling problem, sheila
