Overseas student visa cancellation?

Hi...My pal is an overseas student. Basically he is a hardwrkin studious guy n for the past year he hs bn gng through rough time. He recently received a letter frm immigration dpt. reading that if he dsnt appear b4 them by the end of nxt week n gv submissions rgrding his failures in his uni his visa would be cancelled n he wil be depoted. he told me that he had financial problems throughout last year n therefore he cudnt focus on his studies n it mentally affected him. he ws all dwn last year coz he knew he has no chance coz the uni he ws studyin in excluded him. However he got an admission in another uni coz of his past qualifications....he ws all happy until this letter frm immigration arrived....he did not ask for any help frm his parents coz he wnted to be independent n he did nt wana trouble his parents. Last year he had a car accident n that cost him alot ..... arnd 4000 bucks n top of that he did nt have any job...n he ws using another friends car + $8000per term fees.. He luckily got a job n he paid off all the loans he ws owing to his friends for the accident etc.... He hs gne thru alot....hw can he stop his visa cancellation??? This guy is in sydney, Australia. According to Aussies, any solutions???

  1. He probably won't be able to stop it. He fell out of status once he dropped out of school, and the school is required to report him to USCIS, which obviously, they did. Had he left the US and applied to the other school, he could almost certainly have gotten a new visa and returned. He should have at least tried to get his student status reinstated once he was accepted at the new school. It's more than a bit late now. He could always consult an immigration attorney, which is never a bad idea before going to see some very unhappy immigration officer, but considering that's next week, sounds like he's a bit late on that as well. Probably woudn't hurt to see one anyway.
  2. I think he's screwed,maybe a lawyer may help him,I don't know for sure.
